Check to see if the light/cruise control switch on the brake pedal has come unclipped. Stick your head down with the pedals and look for the switch that is activated when you press the brake pedal (if your car is a manual there will be one on the clutch pedal as well). The switch turns (like a keyhole lock) to lock into the bracket.

This happened to me earlier this year and this is what was wrong with it.

cruise control will not engage if you have a blown or non-operational brake lamp - sounds fuse related... unlikely that you would have blown both brake lamps.

My dads ute had a problem with the switch under the brake pedal that stopped the lights from working.

We ended up putting some duck tape on the switch and fixed it for the time being.

Driving in heavy traffic with a $50,000 boat on the back with no tail lights is risky business.

I think it was $50 for a new switch.

I have no idea about the cruise control.

reset the switchs, this fixes them 90% of the time, all you need to do is remove both switch, pull the push rods all the way so theyre fully extended, then, with you hand pushing down the pedal, refit both switchs, release the pedal, and theyll click into adjustment, DONT pull up on the pedal, it'll undo your hard work :P
