Brake Problem

I have had an ongoing brake issue with my BF XR6T. When I reverse out of my drive way sometimes the front brake seem to grab and it can be felt through the steering and brake pedal. It has been back to the local dealer several times only to say it is carrying out a self test and it is nothing to worry about, well to me the brake are pretty important so has anyone else had similar fault or have any ideas. I thought all self tests where carried out on start up not as you were reversing am I wrong.

I think your Dealer is talking through his hat. If it's under Warranty take it to another dealer, if not a Brake Specialist ! It shouldn't do it.

I think you'll find that the ABS carries out a self test the first time your speed goes above say 5kph once it has been started. (ie, when you start the car and reverse out the drive)

It's more noticeable in some cars than others. I remember 2 identical cars that I drove, and one was much more noticeable than the other. I was quite concerned until someone told me what it was, then it made sense... Now I like hearing/feeling it (and then no ABS warning light!) as I know that the ABS/braking system has tested itself and considers itself working.

The amount you feel it through the pedal and body of the car will depend on many things, one being the clearance of the metal brake lines to the body of the car.

It shouldn't actually be applying the brakes (well, you shouldn't feel the car slow down) and should last for less than a second. If its actually stopping or slowing the wheels, then get it checked out.

I have a 2003 XR6T Ute, It recently has started this problem

Large vibration through thr pedal when braking at slow speeds & ABS fail light has engaged on Two occasions

Does usually occurs just after start up, Backing out & the garage & braking at the kerb

But also occrs after drving for a while also

Did anyone get a solution

I've got the same problem - feels like the abs is kicking in on really light braking when comming to a stop, I can feel it thru the pedal and hear the abs unit working.

its only just started after having the car lowered.

I'm guessing one of the wheel speed sensors is buggered and at slow speed the ecu thinks the wheels are locked up and turns the abs on...

does this sound possible????

I've checked brake operation and they still work fine its just when I'm comming to a stop <10km/h...

They finally found the problem third time up

Faulty ABS sensor All fixed

Just sent it in for a service today

Been told new brake pads & rotors need skimming again, only done 14,000km since last skim & set of pads

They pretty much said get used to it ever 10,000km

no way should pads and rotors last that short, even in an auto.

I punished my rotors and pads and they lasted like 50k, with some meat left!!

I found ferodo formula pads worked well with the stock rotors, that's what I had.
