I don't think they are completely useless, they would cool the air better due to the surface area, but I don't think the contruction has better flow properties

I think its the other way round SennaT. I thought they're actually pretty good flowing coolers. Its the inconsistency of the air temps that makes this cooler only marginally better than the stocky one.

I was under the impression that the Falcons used the MAP system not a MAF system which I hear some people making reference to the Under Battery Pipe restricton and airflow. Manifold Absolute Pressure sensors dont measure airflow traditionally, but an Airflow Meter does. So saying that air FLOW has anything to do with triggering overboost isn't necessarily correct then, is it? Therefore theoretically fitting a larger volume intercooler which has the potential to FLOW more or an aftermarket UBP will have nothing to do with an overboost issue.

so why would the UBP cause overboost, something that has happened to a couple of people on here...

In regards to the monza flow, I wouldnt think anything that has to turn the air around wouldn't flow that good, as opposed to a cooler that flows straight through...

Well the car is tuned to that UBP stock so no matter how much air the cooler can flow its still got to reduce back into the stock pipe which yes can reach higher KWs with a tune, but while the cooler is more efficeint the air has to be reduced back to the standard pipe with the the sensor it infact changes nothing as the sensor is still reading exactly the same as it did stock.

I know when I had the stock cooler on I could get it to ramp up if I booted it hard in a higher gear in manual etc it would boost up and the fall back. that has to do with wastegate aswell I would think to would play a part in it.

when it gets cooler at night its also gonna change as all cars go harder at night. the cooler just helps to give the car similar sort of repetitive go that it would get in the cool of night. just means it can continually be used during the day without the cooler holding it back?

yeah, but as I said before, the sensor is positioned before the main restriction in the stock UBP, so the sensor reads X pressure, then the air hits the restriction, and the throttle body ends up getting Y pressure, so the computer thinks the boost is falling off, so it closes the wastegate more to bring the pressure back up - does that make sense?

Yeh I understand that mate.

1. If u were to place just the cooler on the car with no piping change the airflow couldnt really change as its still as restrictive, the addition of the cooler would just keep it cooler all the time so therefore its always running closer to its standard potential really. the more efficient cooler would just allow air to pass through it quicker with greater heat reduction and pressure drop. maybe a minute amount more if anything. I thought that UBP was the same size right through so the airflow would be the same still all the way.

2. If u were to change the piping all over the flow characteristics would change as there is a difference in air movement and volume. If you increase the size of all the pipework to the throttle body it would increase its flow as its the same size into the intake. I think that would mean it could fit more air into the intake than it would stock and therefore the pipework wouldnt restrict it, therefore a boost or air volume increase into the intake.

hmmm, this is a tricky one, but yeah, the stock UBP actually reduces as it goes through teh battery tray, so its best to get rid of it straight away!
