Chops,

I have many friends that are Cops, Fireys and Ambo's and one thing they all say is very few crashes they attend are due to excessive speed.

Most are due to stupidity, inattention or Drugs/Booze. The reason that speed is blamed is to give the government a valid reason to continue to fine us.

Do not think for one second that any governmnet give a toss about our road safety.

The fact will remain that people will die on the roads, no matter how slow we drive, how safe the cars are or how good we are as drivers.

yep the govt uses the speed excuse for a very simple reason - its easy to go throw 100 random speed cameras around and watch the cash pour in.

Invent a stupidity/inattention camera and watch the govt change its tune.

If you take speeding as driving to fast for the conditions then I agree with you totally, but if you are talking about arbitrary speed limits and being a couple of K's over them then I totally disagree with you .

agree'd

IMO there are plenty of roads where you sit on 130 comftably

most of the speed limits are way to low.As our cars get better and safer the speed limits constantly go down

Anyone see a 'story' on the news last night about the Brisbane Story Bridge fixed camera? I missed it but someone was telling me they made some sort of claim that they would be 'setting the cameras to 1km over...'?

They also said something about a recent car crash 200m before the camera and made some link/justification to/for the camera. Was speed even a factor? I heard a lady died?

Frigging flip flop media, one day its 'YAY, speed cameras save lives!' the next day its 'Cameras Cash Cows' or 'How accurate are they?'

There was speculation about 1 km/h hour over, but nothing confirmed. The same speculator mentioned that the cameras where expected to run out of film within the first hour - you'd think in this day and age the farkers would be digital :secret:

There is supposedly 10% leeway in Qld, have never seen this in writing, but have ever received a fine within the 10% so I doubt the 1 km/h thing is factual; but then who knows with the money-grabbing parasites life-saving government we have.

Had the misfortune of going over to Kangaroo Point this arvo....no bastard will be caught speeding as everyone is over-cautious and doing about 40 km/h now :tonguepoke:

Lowest I have been done is 112 in a 100, lowest I've heard is 99 in a 90. Anyone else had lower?

I wonder how those camera's would go with some nice big home made electro magnets. Ive got a free weekend and I brought my tools home from site I wonder...........

Yep I've heard of lower. Someone got done for doing 88(or something in the 80's) in a 100km/hr zone.

Mate that is still a ten percent margin. As far as I am aware, ADR only require ten percent accuracy of speedos, most states will set speed measuring devices to comply with this. They are not required to but usually do. recently the Sa Police Minister let slip that Melbournes speed cameras did infact have a ten percent margin.
