You can fit more beer in the T.

See plenty of WRX's and a few EVO's at hidden valley.

Only ever see one or two T's and these are SLOW around the track compared to other cars.

(when they're not oveheating)

Even a ham-fisted Mong like me beats em in the EVO and theres a couple of rexxies

there that I'm slower than by 4-5 seconds.

The T for long trips / comfort and a good level of performance

the WRX for fastest from A to B.

The T is a good, big heavy tourer based on a family sedan with great straight line performance.

The WRX is a lighter, nimble, focused weapon that is made to perform around corners. The fact that a 2.5 litre can keep in touch with a big 4.0l and V8s is a bonus, and deserves respect. As an all rounder, the Rex (and cars like it) go hard in a straigh line, and can manage corners much better than a T.

As an everyday road car, the T is the more pleasant prospect.

A WRX is only as good around corners as the bravery of the driver.

Same can be said for the 6T....

Same driver, in both, back to back? WRX will be quicker.

an AWD car has the ability to add buckets of confidence,

I'm more brave in AWD...

I feel like I'm cheating every time I get in an AWD car and give it a pizzling. :spoton:

They really are tonnes of fun.

But I always ask myself, how often I actually get a chance to drive fast (AWD fast) around corners?

The answer is sweet FA.

So then when I get back in the T, I pat myself on the back lol.

Yeh the AWD is a hell of a lot more forgiving than the RWD (especially in the wet).

Id guess that the WRX has way better body balance than that of our T's. We tend to get a heap of front nose dive (turning into understeer) cause our cars way about 1700kg... that's right were all fat c*nts, but hands down I still know which car id rather be driving every day of the week... ma :spit:

Before I bought mine, I was heavily considering an XR6T. In saying that, I ended up choosing a wrx.

WRX's definitely don't corner good in stock standard shape! They understeer like you wouldn't believe! Adding a bigger rear swaybar though, eliminated MOST of the understeer, and it's pretty neutral on the track now, but can easily get into oversteer if urged... Depends how you drive it in the end. WRX is great in the wet though. Having come from a old sh*tter ED falcon (still have it and still love it :P), taking off from the lights in the old falcon was all wheelspin.. I can nail it from the lights and get NO wheelspin at all... All changes if you're going around a corner in the wet though.

Not sure what would be quickest stock for stock (without launch), but with 200kw atw, I fairly easily pulled from a stock XR6T from around 20 - 100. In saying that, I'd still love to buy an xr6t as a second car! 300rwkw with minimal money spent sounds bloody awesome!

Stock T owns a stock rex up to about 2002 never tried anything higher.

If I was thinking about trying to pick up maybe a 95-99 any hints or things I should look out for mate?

Definitely go a 99/00. Better brakes than previous models, engines with more power, better interior, better looking appearance, dual airbags standard, ... the list goes on. Mechanically, you should look out for the following:

If you look at one with an OILED pod filter, be very weary.. Expect to have to replace the AFM as the oil contaminates the AFM and causes the car to run lean and detonate... They're $215 from subaru... Only pod filters suitable are NON-oiled.. which I'm running. Makes the turbo spool very loud, comparing to the standard airbox.

Gearboxes are meant to be very weak. I'm running double the power, and still haven't broke mine... Albeit, I am very sympathetic on the gearbox... at ~$7k fitted for a PPG straightcut gearbox, I'd rather try and keep the stock one, as nice as it'd be to get the whine!

They are reliable if maintained well, and serviced regularly. There's one on rexnet that has nearly 400,000kms on standard engine, and turbo, and gearbox! Clutch only changed twice!

Check the engine bay area to see if the chassis has been cut to fit FMIC, front bar cut to fit the core..Definite signs that it's been modified before!

It's critical to make sure the major 100k service has been performed... It's an expensive service (around $1500 at subaru), has the timing belt replaced etc. I'd probably be trying to stick to a MY99/00 with under 150k kms.

If you've found one you like, get a compression test! It should measure 145-155psi for an EJ205. You can pick 99/00's up for VERY cheap as of late... With the new P plate laws, alot of the previous buyers are now gone as they aren't allowed to drive them!

Lift up the carpet on the passengers side to see if that panel has been removed before... ECU is below that...Signs that it's been tuned before!

Join up to www.rexnet.com.au .. There's a plethora of information over there.. Should also add, only problem I've had with mine in the 14 months of ownership is the bloody brant alarm they have!!! It's a given if you own a wrx with a brant, you WILL have problems at some stage ;)
