Exactly. You just don't want to be the poor sucker that finds the odd one out, lol.

My old lightweight STi will soon be close after recent head and turbo mod, and about to be tuned by Tunehouse.

I'll give it a run down wsid when it's ready.

Pretty hard to beat for all round fun compared with the Ford taxi.

I'd expect Ford big power top end (with 400rwkw) would see the Ford pull away once you get over 100mph.

There are probably a lot more rexes with 250awkw on the road than you realise, especially in 2.5L spec.

There are a couple of 300awkw rexes, but not many.

But, you don't need a 300awkw rex to smack a 300rwkw XR6T.

190awkw WRX (My99) roughly equals 300rwkw XR6T in power to wieght.

And I can tell you right now, there are HEAPS of 180-210awkw rexes out there. And they will serve you a few car lengths off the line. So don't get cocky.

Like a few others on the forum, I've had both....

Last year, I sold my 04 STI which was tuned to 230kw@wheels with all the good stuff (Intercooler, turbo, fuel system, exhaust motec, running 22psi).... Quite a quick car, but you really had to punish it to get off the line good and 2 gear changes to 100km/h did slow you down and was quite fistrating.... Was really good on twisty stuff with coilovers, sway bars and semi slicks combined with 4wd and a front LSD.... the gearbox just let the car down performance wise. You wont really notice any new found power until your in 4th gear...

The older classic shape sti's flew with a few mods and better ratios (and a lot less power) and can do some really good numbers... The later STI's (06 on) have better gear ratio's but their engine's need some internal work before you can extract a decent and safe 250+kw@wheels from them....

Driving on the road... I prefer my FG F6 auto anyday... In gear acceleration I think is so much easier, smoother and less fuss.. Getting off the line in 2wd over 4wd is always going to be harder though.... And through twisty stuff... you just have to be a better driver and have the car setup right to be quick, whereas naturally the 4wd (with LSD) is much cheaper to setup.

I had a Lancer GSR with a 2L conversion years ago... Running 230kw@wheels in a very light car.... twisty stuff was a waste of time, too much weight transfer to the rear and the lack of a front LSD just meant understeer.....

The other thing you need to consider is, what feel's faster isnt necessarily faster! Go drive a porsche and see :) They just do it with so little fuss... there is no sensation of speed....

well thanks for the insight!!

I think we all know that you dont need a 300awkw rex to beat a 300rwkw t... that's a no brainer....

yes there are heaps of 200 awkw rexs out there... and to date I have not been done by one..... I do know that you have a 380rwkw manual that wont break into the 11's that will surely get its arse handed by most rexes.... but just remember that MOST modded t's are autos..... and you and I both know that an auto with 290-300 rwkw will run a very ow 12 if not a high eleven. all this for about $2K.... sure they are not as not fun to drive, but hey they are shiat loads faster.

Hey I like rexxes... I have owned them before... and am thinkng of buying another.... but lets get realistic..... on average whats going to be a faster street point and shoot weapon??

so whose cocky here?? not me.... whose bitter for getting smashed by 190awkw rexes?? not me

Brian, with all due respect... how much money have you thrown at your rex to get it where it is???

now lets not forget that MOST people are not as fortunate when it comes to modding cars.

and I think I would not be too far off when I say that most people will only ever spend a couple of K on mods.

Now what will this couple of K get when modding a T power wise compared when modding a rex??

sure the 300 awkw STI will be a farking ball tearer, especially when you compare it with a FORD TAXI. But at the same time most of us dont get the opportunity to have multiple cars in the garage to modify... we have to work our family, our interests, our tinkering with cars etc around our lifestyle and incomes. I would guess that the vast majority would be in this boat.

lets compare apples with apples

To throw a spanner in the works, I checked out an Evo 10 MR yesterday.... Owner has had modded F6, modded STi, Audis etc and reckons its the BEST performance car he's had (he's contemplating getting a 2nd hand 35R when the time comes).

From his accounts neither the Subi's or big fords would come close. Reckons the F6 would pull away over on a decent straight stretch but I guess if your that far ahead after the corners..

Best bit was his "computers control what the car does, your mearly a passenger" comment.... Least he's an honest (new school!) evo driver I guess
