Hey all,

I was going to wait for the new "orion" model to come out but after seeing ads for the latest deals on the normally aspirated XR6 I'm considering buying a new car now. I currently have a BA MKII XR6, auto, which I really like, except I bought it second hand and the stock standard stereo and inability to upgrade really piss me off. My car will be out of warranty at the end of the year so it seems like a good time to go to a new one.

When I bought my car I was tossing up between my current car, which was 9 months old at the time, and an almost out of warranty MKI turbo. I test drove the turbo and loved it, except while driving it at a steady 70kph at one point it lost all power and I had to go to neutral, turn it off and turn it on to get the engine running normally again which didn't seem good for a car about to be out of warranty. I've always missed the turbo though.

So anyway, I'm looking to upgrade to a new XR6T, seeing as to get the features I want I pretty well have to buy brand new. Most importantly I want the Premium ICC so I can upgrade the stereo properly using the Alpine Vehicle Hub Pro and I want a Manual... though I've yet to confirm my desire for a manual through a test drive. I also plan to get the alloy spare (I drive in the country every so often and I don't want to have to drive 80kph if I get a flat). Driveaway without any discounts this would cost about $48500 by my calculations (stupid high WA stamp duty). I was also considering a sunroof and the sports leather seats but I'm not sure I really want to fork out the extra 5 grand.

Any thoughts on the manual vs auto thing (I think I just prefer the control of a manual, plus there's a huge lag in my current auto when I put my foot down which annoys the hell out of me). Also if anyone could give any insight as to how much sunroof and leather adds to resale when selling 2nd hand, are they a pain/comfy in summer etc?

Ford are currently throwing in stamp duty, 12 months CTP and comprehensive insurance on the auto XR6 for $39990 so I figure they must be able to do a decent deal on the turbo. I'm thinking that when they bring out the "orion" the price on the turbo will be up on the current $42990, and they'll be less willing to get the price down.

Should I be waiting on the new ford next year? I'm not sure I'll like it based on the pics I've seen.

So yeah, your thoughts would be appreciated.

Personally I'd be waiting, then if the the orion is the ducks nuts jump in one of them or get a very cheap runout BF. Only downside being you have to wait. :omg: You're going to lose money either way I guess, but at least you can make an informed choice rather than guessing about what the new model may bring.

Make sure you test drive something with the zf six-speed auto before making up your mind on transmissions :stupid:

I'm with Tab, if you can wait then wait and see what happens before you jump into a BF. As far as choosing manual or auto I use to think the exact same way as you, but looking back I wish I had of got an auto (and not just cause I got a T5). As far as world class, big power holding and quick 1/4 times you can't go past the ZF.

I'm sure Senna our local price Guru will be able let you know if it's a good price or not, but google the Orion F6's they are damn sexy :pulease:

Yeah, and on that test drive make sure you play with putting it in D-Perf mode, and changing gears a bit too. It's a very intelligent gearbox and a lot of fun.

Well Premium ICC and 18s is now standard on the XR6T, and I got one with a sunroof for $48500. So if you dont go the sunroof, cut 2.2k off that straight away!

I love the sunroof BTW. Will never buy another car without one! Feels very claustrophobic driving the company fairmont now...

In a turbo, go the Auto. The auto is best matched with the turbo donk....

that price is about right XRTPSI, $46,500 is a deal for a straight car, the dealer and the customer would be happy with that. wait til orion comes out, if there are any BFmk2's around, they'll be dirt cheap

I'm more than happy with the sports leather, swede inserts, and had no dramas with the heat. I think it also looks a little nicer and can't hurt for the re-sale factor.

Go the ZF6 auto as the manual is just a manual and can only be a manual :fishin: at least with the auto you can choose between the sedate traffic ride, flick to the performance but lazy mode and finally you can use it like a MANUAL without the grinding oops there goes another cog mode! A choice of three is better than .....well no choice.

Either way good luck with it and I'm sure you wont be disappointed which ever way you go. :w00t2:

that's on the road, with $2k extra for my tradein than it was worth, so I was happy with the deal. At the end of the day, I am happy with it, even if I didnt get more than the tradein was worth!

Ended up getting conquer anyway. Check out the "colours" thread and the photo of conquer is my car at pre-delivery :)
