Drift event... even more fun!

Anyone care to cost it out?

Ok, here's a guestimate

Turbos (int gates) 2000-3000

Manifold $1000 custom

IC piping $500 hot side only

Oil lines, $350

Air Filters, $200

Intakes, $400

Dump pipes, $1000

Hmmm, that coin will get a nice juicy BIG single with change though

plus a plenum...

The cost should total maybe $8000 I guess, this isn't about the money though, its about being different and having the wow factor, I mean none of the big single cars can be driven hard on the street, its just wheelspin everywhere, why should I just have another Nizpro Stage 4 - 5 car like the others, please don't get me wrong, I'm not saying Nizpro's stuff is boring or common, but for these kind of power levels, that's all there is on the market really, I want to do my own thing, and it will probably become a kit one day...

Oh, and it will be $1200 for the manifolds, priced them today

Thanks for the link Gav, I've got a price for 3037s with external Tial gates from GCG for $4024 brand new, but I have decided to go for internally gated 3037s due to the lack of space in the engine bay, these are also considerably cheaper and will serve the purpose well.

Again cheers for the input :hay:

I love how you say your gonna have heaps of low down torque and midrange etc...

my prediction is this....

with the size turbos your talking about, no boost until about 4000rpm.

then massive hit of power and wheelspin concentrated in a narrow power band between that and redline...

what you will get is a drag car, needing a tuff auto with a very high stall... and to make the most of it, youll need to rev it past 7500rpm to make it useful at that...

you need way smaller turbos for a street car mate...

hey groper, I know you are pretty learned about turbo's, but have you ever experienced a 3037 before? I know of, and have been in a couple of cars with these turbos fitted to SR20DET and RB25DET engines, they make full boost from 3500rpm and pull to 6000, then fall off above that. The 3037 - from my experience - is the most streetable turbo out there, so I figure having two on a four litre would be a good thing.

I guess we'll just have to wait and see when its finished, we are planning to have both cars finished for summernats '09, I know it seems like a long time away, but these builds will be privately funded and done in spare time.

Cheers,

Pat

Not much difference between the 4000rpm Groper reckons, and the 3500rpm you reckon.

Either way, I agree, it's going to be laggy. With Singles as good as they are these days, twins just aren't necessary.

I don't think it will stack up to a well sorted single.

But, like you say, you want to be a pioneer and unique. And that, you will be. :roflmbo:

the 500rpm actually makes alot of difference, when you consider that its full boost at 3500, these start spooling under that, so it makes for a much more usable range, again I know singles are good these days, but I don't think F6 Rapids or Brians car make much boost below 4000rpm, and from memory Brians rev limit is up to 7500.

Thanks for the input guys :spoton:

Its not really a good comparison to say a given turbo will spool at 3000 on a 4cyl 2lt so two of them on a 4lt will spool the same, they just dont react the same way.

Air pressure and air speed through the headwill determine what they spool like, and a 4lt motor as a hell of alot of air going through it to spool turbos, and also take into account Pats built motor's comp ratio compared to the BCL motor.

like you said earlier Pat, the Mines R34 GTR with its NEOs is an extremely quick car, so if you can find turbos that suit the 4lt that work like the NEO's did then it will be an awesome street car.

The balance is to get on boost low down at 2000 and hold strong boost to 6000.

I feel, to get this working right, manifold design/flow will have to be spot on, intercooler, piping, wastegate flow will all have to work well together.

I'd be budgeting some extra cash to try different exhaust housings and wheels once its all on the car.

Thanks for the input Chris, hopefully by the time we have the two cars finished, we'll be just about ready to open a shop too, so when that happens we can afford to play around a bit, the guys at GCG didn't say it would be the wrong choice in turbos, so I reckon they should know what they are on about!
