Is this going to be a forged engine Senna? I mean are you going to go all the way like Bcl?

I spose we'll see how it goes. I have a built engine in my car now, the rods and pistons are rated by atomic to 600kw engine, so it should be capable of getting me to 500rwkw. I plan on getting the setup right on an engine stand first - say just using an XT bare block and head, then I will probably drop it into my car for tuning, as far as that goes, if we still run with the fuel system I have (siemens and in-line Bosch 044) I could probably limp it to CV as long as I didn't bring it on boost - there is alot to consider with this set-up!

And yes it is probably going to be a bit of a "whats the point" but I would like to be able to drive it every day, we'll just see how things go, I wouldn't mind that wow factor!

hey guys, I have been looking at the Garrett catalogue today, I'm thinking about GT3071/76 internal gate 'chargers they are rated upto around 450hp and are designed to work off 1.8 - 3.0L engines, about the perfect size for a twin set-up IMO - any comments from the turbo guru's?

are you laughing about the idea, or the turbo choice? As I said earlier, this car will not be made to find the limits of a twin turbo set-up, it will be done as an engineering excercise I guess you could say...

I don't mind if people think its a silly idea, if I cared about ppl nay-saying I wouldn't have posted it on a forum. And by the way, do you ask everyone how much money they have? it doesn't matter what my budget is, I asked for ppls thoughts on the turbo set-up, not whether or not you think I can afford it - so pull your head in unless you have something constructive to say...

Pat,

I say go for it... If your heart is in it then just do it. I think that you can end up with a nice daily driver if you choose the right turbos and get it tuned properly for the street and not just WOT. The WOW factor will always be there regardless of turbo size.

I thought about doing it as well as I love the low down torque but chose to go a different way with a single turbo.

I come from a GTR background and can tell you that you cannot beat the TT setup for street and circuit work. A properly setup TT 4.0L engine should generate some monster torque down low.

A balanced TT setup should spool up from down low ... Imagine reaching 15 psi @ 2000 rpm!! ... That will produce one nice drivable street car.

Like everyone says ... If you want a straight line bullet then go the single big turbo as this is the easiest and best way to go.

As for turbo choice, dont waste your time looking at catalogues. Go and speak to the experts and get their opinion. You first need to set some targets, torque down low, high end power, even fuel economy etc ...

So when are you starting the build up?

you're right john, I should just go and have a chat to the boys at GCG or somewhere like that, the Garrett catalogue does have pretty good info on it though.

I agree with the twin turbo set-up - ever seen the Mines GTR in action around a track, that car is insane! - it should be nice and streetable, as long as I don't go too extreme with turbo size.

Hoping to start the build sometime early next year, it's just getting the time and space to do it first!

John,

The biggest problem with having too much torque down low is lack of traction on hard acceleration.

We can now have our cars tuned low to lose traction at 3500 revs (or lower), it would be a problem having a loss of traction at say 2500 revs; although the car would be far better for every day driving or ciruit work, as there would be more responsive and have a wider usable rev range.

If the car had awd it would be incredible. Turbos and awd are easily the best combination.

It think it would be fantastic on a Territory ( call it a TTT ... twin turbo Terrotory) where there is more mass and it would be a far better launch.

whoa there brian! I don't think I can manage an awd system aswell! lol

I agree, 15psi at 2000rpm would be hard on the tyres, but if we can tune it to gradually build it should be manageable. I'll definately have to upgrade the rear wheels - they are only 8.0 inch wide - not good for traction!

The thing alot of people are focussing on is WOT - this sort of car cannot be driven at WOT in traffic, it will be stupid and I don't intend to drive it like that all day everyday. As pointed out the response will be fantastic and chances are WOT will not be needed day to day
