Mate I understand how you feel, but keep in mind that that $18000 includes a GST component which goes straight to the government of $1636.36, so really they are selling your $14000 trade in for $16363 plus GST. that's a $2300 profit, which equates to less than 20% mark up. And they have some overheads to cover with that profit too remember.

Hate to say it but you probably purchase stuff all the time with much greater mark ups than that. Food and clothing for example often has 100% mark up. In some cases much more.

As for not talking them down from your new purchase, why didn't you give it a go mate? Car purchasing isn't a popularity contest. Screw em down as much as possible because they will return the favour regardless when you come time to trade in.

You sign on the dotted line when you are happy with the price, not before.

:stirthepot: (except for the screw em down bit!)

Also, if they paid 11,000 for your car, they wouldn't have necessarily put 18,000 on your car to sell it, not all dealers are into profiteering, judging by your other post in the "what cars have you owned" thread, you have had a few cars over the years, if you don't know how dealers work by now, maybe you're not taking much notice everytime they "screw you over"

But as you said, you got the car now, enjoy it and let the modding begin!

Truth is, nobody likes car salespeople, but they are a necessary evil. Everyone has been screwed by a car salesperson, and when you think you got a good deal, you get screwed on delivery or after sales service. But when comparing car salespeople to real estate salespeople at least your geting screwed on a smaller scale.

Sales makes the world go around, why pick on the poor old car salesman, they work long hours, get paid relatively bugger all and cop sh*t on a daily basis.

Come up with a decent deposit shop around and look to find a salesman that is trying to reach a bonus target level, have fun and enjoy your new car.
