Scotty, I've been here long enough to know that it is a problem on many cars.

In my experience I've never had that problem with my ute, although I've been in may BA's that have.

My ute's handbrake was adjusted correctly at PD and has never given me a problem in 4.5 years.

Having access to a service department who, a) knows their job well, and b) does their job well makes all the difference.

Adam my comment was not so much that the handbrakes works, mine does and has never been adjusted. Would not pass a roadworthy though as it needs a 11ty thousand clicks to activate to hold. Been like that since new, as has every Fairmont that the Army has purchased in the last couple of years that I have driven.

These handbrakes work, they need to be pulled up hard from new, are not roadworthy compliant (not in my experience anyway) and are poor for a modern day family car at best.

Now not knowing what car was in the article or the servicing history it would be premeture to say that the handbrake killed the bloke, but not in my opinion they are very poor right from new and potentionally dangerous.

Senna T, in your knowledge are Ford aware of this?

Mine's 5 clicks. 6 if you try and rip it from it's mount.

Mine's 6 clicks now that WA diffs adjusted it for me... before that, Ford had a few cracks at it and after a few weeks it would nearly point to the roof when pulled up

I feel the handbrake is sh*t compaired to every other ford I have owned.

Hay it works perfect in the forward direction but once in a blue moon it will hold in reverse.

I have a slopping driveway as well.

You pull on the handbrake with clutch in and car still running and it rolls back.

Let the clutch out and try to drive forward to park where it should have stopped and the handbrake holds against the load of the engine and the car squats.

One day I will have ago at modififing it so it works in both directions.

Lets hope if this guy who was killed actually owned a BA/BF that something is done about this poorly working handbrake.

And yes mine only takes 6 clicks when pulling on as hard as I can.

So who has problems with there handbrake holding in reversre direction?

I think it is a design issue why they are doing this.
