BrentS Member 79 Member For: 21y 9m 13d Posted 25/06/03 01:04 AM Share Posted 25/06/03 01:04 AM In terms of the alarm issue, I've got one fitted to my ED XR6. I've also got the alarm wired to a secondary immobiliser which cuts the fuel pump if the car is started without the alarm being disengaged properly. I did this because my first ED XR6 was knocked-off from outside my place in broad daylight during the week. Given that the car had Ford's Smartlock system fitted, I was shocked that it could be stolen so easily. However, I was even more surprised (and bloody angry) when my insurance company said "yeah mate, the theives cracked the Ford immobiliser back 5 or 6 years ago and are now being stolen at a rapid rate of knots." I couldn't believe what I was hearing!!!I may stand corrected, but I believe there's bugger-all difference between the current Ford "Smartshield" system and the older "Smartlock" system in models prior to the AU. So guys, I'd fit an alarm as a MINIMUM measure, and preferably have a 2nd immobiliser fitted. It won't stop a professional who really wants your car, but it may slow them up enough for them to not be bothered so they'll just steal the HSV down the road!Brent.
