no, we can't do that, its a myth, its also illegal, the odo is locked once activated and cannot be changed for any reason, the reading is also kept in the ECU memory, just incase the cluster has to be replaced.

So if you change to a cluster with a different Odometer reading it will be reset by the ECU to the orginal Ks or just keep the replacement Ks?

yeah, I think they are a little more cleverer than they were ten years ago

There was a batch of cluster that went out with BA Mk1's that had a dodgy 6th digit, so once the car reached 100,000kms every now and again it would have 00345, instead of 100345! bargain!

when a car gets booked in to dealer stock, they note down how many km's the cars come in with, this is usually put on a sheet inside the deal folder, along with any damage (if any) and the identifiers for the vehicle.

We call this either the "10-66" or "Mail Daily", you can ask to see this I guess, it will tell you how much FPV or the dealer drove it.

thanks for the info SENNA_T that's great. If the car has more than what I'll like on it ill be asking to see the page work. I hope it has very little as I've never owned on brand new car before.

Cheers
