It cant be just a guessing game. How can a tuner tell? Did you pay your tuner to pull apart your gearbox and provide a written report?Autos let go at different power levels and alot depends on the owners driving style. I have been running similiar power levels to you for 2 years without even a tranny cooler and my stock auto is fine ( fingers crossed touches wood ) Of late the 3-4 change has been a bit lazy which might be a sign its on its way out but what do you expect? These autos were not designed to run 50% more power and nearly double the torque that they do.You play you pay. Combination of Ramp Speed, Ramp Timing and Ramp Presure, and overall box presure. Alot of tuners are basing their shifting from the capa generics and going from there... Problem is, the Ramp Timing is too fast, and can lead to downgearing from 2nd to 1st causing compression lockups... Obviously not a good thing in the box.At the end of the day, Performance mods void any warentee you have with ford, and cause all sorts of component failure and unreliability. The vehicle was not engineered to handle the power your tuner has released for you, so you cannot hold them responsible for you not upgrading your auto to suit the power levels..Out of all the cars I've tuned, only 2 have munched standard boxes.. Ironically both those cars had full nizpro kits on them.. Might say something about the power curve having a direct relation to breaking plantery's.. However, none of the boxes I've tuned have started slipping. I think tuners need to tell people about the possible problems before they go ahead. I brought this up with my tuner and he said it might hold up and it might die. a clearer response would have helped. would a surgeon do a heart transplant with a person who has lung cancer. I don't think so. are tuners able to tell before these mods are done whether the tranny will hold up. It cant be just a guessing game. any way fords xr6t and the FPV models are terrific in their natural form. I think when you start playing with them, things go horribly wrong!Mate have you upgraded your brakes and suspension. If not why not? a car is set up as a package, you substantiaaly increase power your cars suspension and brakes will not be up to speed. Maste how old are you and how long have you been driving. I am sorry but to me you sound like a young bloke with Fark all life experience, and you are learning some lessons the hard way.Scotty

Perhaps the checkout staff at the supermarket should tell you that if you buy cake and ice cream you will get a tank arse, cankles, man boobs, bat arms and a gut you could house twins in. Damn right negligent of them I say. Edited 08/11/07 11:49 AM by Fatsex

They turn into thigh arms, you get keg legs also. Edited 08/11/07 12:07 PM by Fatsex

Did you have him open it to check the condition? You say that your tuner said that you might have a problem. Isn't that advice? He can't say for certain as there are a raft of different variabes, but you might .Sounds fair enough to me. He can't guarantee you will nor can he guarantee you wont because he doesn't know the history of the box or your driving style. Nor did he build it. And did you really believe that it's life would be unaffected by such a huge power/torque increase? Most people here accept that they will be affecting the life of some of the driveline components and then be thankful for the borrowed time that they are living on without performing modifications to the driveline. Knowing full well that eventually they will have to shell out for a rebuild. Its why my first mod is going to be a heavy duty clutch. I know from reading many posts here that it is barely able to handle the stock power levels of this car. Failure to replace it will lead to problems.Sounds to me like you are looking to blame someone else for your own naivety, or unwillingness to accept that this is ultimately your responsibility. After all you authorised this power upgrade work on your car without taking the whole package into account. All of the clues to this type of thing are contained within this forum. Yet you chose to ignore them and instead look to blame your tuner because a component that was never designed to have a long life at that power level miraculously failed.Go figure! It appears that I was wrong and appears that assumptions indeed do make you look like an ass, for that assumption I am sorry. However, the point is still valid, about a car being a complete package, you increase power, you need to look at almost all other components of the vehicle to see if they are going to be able to use that power safely. Now2 you are not alone on this forum of being guilty in just screwing up the power and ignoring other vital components. You are however the only guy comming on here and blaming your tuner. Other thread that have started on this forum blamaing tuners for wrong doing, have all been extremely one sided and ended up complete sh*t fights. Mate all I can suggest is you learn from this experience, you fix your gearbox and enjoy what is a fantastic vehicle. We on this forum love em and hate em for various reason, but we are not going to take lighty someons comming on here and telling us what a heap of sh*t they are because X component failed cause you modified Y component.Hang around on the forum, there is an absolute wealth of information, some laughs and some tossers as well (include me in that last catagory if you wish), look foward to seeing you on a cruise and enjoy your new power.Scotty
