gday,

anybody seen the new Motovert RX 125cc bike? its one of those chinese bikes, except it actually looks to be well built, and its $2999 on road, its got mirrors and indicators, digital spedo and everything.

Only thing is, its only a bit over a meter tall !!! how did they get compliance on that? There will be a few deaths on that machine.

http://www.motovert.com.au/

I also found while searching on the net, that these lifan, chinese mobs are duplicating everything from Yamaha 1100cc cruisers, to harleys, and everything. Down to the last bolt (appearance wise anyways). and there all selling for around the $3000 mark new!!!

It wont be long and were going to see an absolute FLOOD of chinese bikes and cars, and it wont be long after that when they actually start producing quality stuff, just like happened with Japan after WW2. You dont hear anybody say Jap Crap anymore in my experience.

BMW and Merc have taken legal action to ban the import of Chinese knock-offs of their cars into Germany.

It won't be long before all of the manufacturers do the same. The Chinese knock-off bikes copying Yamaha and the like will be very short lived indeed.

As far as the pit bikes go, they're good cheap fun. I read a review in Cycle Torque on the registerable MotoVert. It's a Supermoto version of their 125 MX bike. The review said it was pretty good, but the rider felt wrong taking it on the road.

that's complete rubbish, what do you think happened when the japanese copied the MG convertable? nothing... as long as the design is 25% different, its not infringing on a design patent (which has no bearing in china anyways), which yamaha most likely wont have, there extreemly rare. they will have trademarks on their logo. (the little 'R' - TM means nothing legally just for a bit of interesting info)

The only reason BMW & Merc are doing this is because they've had it too good for too long, do you honestly believe the merc engine is better than a toyota engine? They are just after the publicity to rubbish these new brands which are emerging, they wont have a leg to stand on in court.

Our family owns approx 12 - 15 trademarks and a few registered designs, we did them all ourselves - cost a bloody fortune though.

How many cans of Cola can you buy at the supermarket that are in a red can but dont have the word 'Coke' at the start. Its exactly the same. Yamaha doesnt own the colour blue, and honda red etc. Unless it says 'Honda' on the side, theres bugger all anybody can do.

How do you think Toyota came to be?

You should check your facts first.

I'm not talking about knock offs that are clearly identifiable (as most of them are).

But, knock offs that are clearly trying to pass themselves off as a higher brand, which is what BMW and Merc are doing.

While there are no laws to stop making them in China, the countries they're trying to sell to do, and the importation can be stopped.

For BMW and Merc, the Chinese are trying to import almost identical copies of their cars into Germany and using the implied safety standards to sell them, when in reality all have failed even the softest of safety testing. I'm sure they have legal teams that understand the legalities of trademarks and copyright better than anyone.

Bah...Not likely. China have always mass produced crap and I doubt it would change. Japan still makes junk but they also make bloody good cars and bikes.

I'd bite off my own nuts before I bought a car made in china.
