that's a common mistake for the 86, the one that gained fame from Initial D was the 86, the AE-86 Sprinter GT Apex edition had a LSD in it among a few other things, but they are an amazingly quick car for some unknown reason, bugger all power, just won't stop revving though

I read from one of the box's for the turbo blankets that they should be taken off after use, due to the retention of heat.

When I can remember which company made the blanket I will look up the site for you.

AE86's are the greatest little buggers going round, they are now really starting cost some serious cash to buy.... probably because every one has crashed them drifting.

that's interesting TUFXRT6, if you can that would be great! I should probably read up on the Garrett web-site if anything, my original problem was how badly the standard heatshields work, can't help it I guess...

Would it really be such an issue with a water-cooled turbo?

The metal fatigue and crystalization occurs in the exhaust housing if you leave blankets on when the turbo's red hot. The water travelling through the bearing housing doesnt have any effect on the temp in this area. :spoton:
