Fitting A Turbo Blanket

G'day all, just thought I'd post up a few pics of my Turbo Blanket install, basically I got it from a member CSV_LS1, he had already modified the heat shield to accomodate the blanket, this is only a small clip with some snips, you can see in the pictures how it is still mostly intact. The tools I used were: 10mm ring spanner, 13mm ring spanner, 10 & 13mm sockets and ratchet, a flat-blade screwdriver, two hands of course, and the piece de resistance - a bent up coat hanger! this was used to pull the locking springs around to hook up on the blanket. This was the most time consuming part, as it is very tight down there and you have to make sure you don't hook any vacuum lines.

I have noticed a reduction in under bonnet temps, however I haven't got a comparison so you can judge for yourself :biggrin:

Good move mate, blankets work really well... good for added spool up and under bonnet temp reduction.

And they look funky too!

Looks like you have gone to town with the heat tape as well.

A turbo blanket is on my list, but its a long list and keeps getting longer. :spoton:

The only gripe I have about the blanket is that because of the position of the flange, the XTR logo doesn't sit on top of the turbo, minor, but it would've been nice

And you're right 72, I went a little crazy with the heat tape, I'm not sure what I'm gonna cover next, still can't decide what to do with the crossover!

MMMM... Your right 72. The list just get's bigger and bigger....Another mod to add on the list. :spoton:

Although with Summer around the corner, this should be a worthy mod. :boff:

I also like the idea of taping up that turbo inlet pipe. Looks kinda trendy aswell. :kissmy:

All these little bit's and pieces always count and this is no exception.

cheers San, I figure wrapping that inlet pipe is worth while, cos if the air is hot before it gets to the turbo, what chance does it have comin out?

That pipe alone cost me 60 bucks though, kinda expensive, its the adhesive kind...

have you guys thought about removing the rear under bonnet rubber.

I removed mine and you can see the engine from the drivers seat. 20mm clearence in the middle.

hot air rises and is pushed from the front out the rear of the bonnet.

Not sure how well that would work at speed, the bottom of the windscreen is a high pressure area.

Would work quite well when stopped though.
