hi,

I got a 2004 mkII xr6 turbo ute which has done just under 97000km's, when the bearing in the turbo let go making a funny sound, took it to ford as the ute is still in warranty, they pulled it apart and found that the turbo oil supply line filter was blocked stopping oil getting to the turbo, ford are voiding the warranty due to the fact that it wasn't serviced at a ford dealer, and said that they therefore didn't know what oil was put in it, so they put it under normal wear and tear and said I would be footing the bill for it to get fixed. I thought this is bullsh*t considering its always been serviced and that it is fully stock. they also rattled some bull sh*t that they suppose to clean the oil supply line filter every service but there is nothing about it in the service manual. I had a mate that worked at ford 3 years back in sydney, he worked on my many xr6 turbos and never ever did he have to clean a supply line filter for the turbo or drain anything special or anything like that, ever ! During that 3 years, he was told and shown that the service for an xr6 turbo was no different from a normal xr6 or xr8 or falcon for that matter! He also experienced first hand, other ford customers getting ripped off in similar ways, ford continously focused on makin a profit from the customers rather than customer satisfaction etc etc.

That was the reason he quit, felt bad working for a company that was misleading and treatin customers poorly and unfairly.

The customers had to keep coming back because once again, the warranty would be void if the went anywhere else....the customer had no choice.

I dont know what to do.....any help or opinions would be great.

the price ford gave me for just the parts was $4800 with out labour, havin a look around, a T70 turbo I can get for around $355, it's a T3 flanged turbo so it'll fit right onto the standard manifold, then I'll need a wastegate, aftermarket ecu, new exhaust, intercooler piping, it will still workout to be much cheaper than anything ford could ever imagine doing!

To fix bearings in these turbos its like $675, if a wheel is damaged it an additional $250. Do change the C.H.R.A its $1750, from garret dist. New turbo from fraud is 3k, there is about $150 odd in gaskets. I suppose they will want to put a new supply line on too. I still can't see it ballooning out to that cost.

But regardless of all that the warranty denial is a farce. Nowhere do they mention cleaning the screen as part of regular servicing and provided wherever you got it serviced did it according to the log book the farkers have got no right to knock back your claim.

Have you tried calling 13FORD?

My understanding of our new car warranty was that as long as it was serviced by a qualified mechanic and they use genuine OEM ford parts the warranty is good. Most the dealerships I know of use apprentices for their servicing so I dont know how that would be any better?!?

Mate start ringing turbo repair shops. I got a quote for MTQ here in perth today today to recon a xr6t turbo. $540 for a bearing pack replacement (thats parts and labour inc gst!!) and $890 to replace the bearing pack and the turbo shaft if its damaged from the bearing failure.

where is andrews farm? MTQ have a branch in every state. I was quoted trade prices so retail may be slightly higher than that but you can bet it'l be a fa cry off $4800.

get the car towed to your nearest decent workshop, get the turbo reco'd and refitted and away you go, Fords attitude towards turbo replacement sh*ts me. It actually tells you in the service manual to replace the turbo if the $117 wastegate actuator needs replacing!! :spoton:

who did your services? is he a member of MTA or RACV as if he is they can't void your warranty and if they did I am sure the mta/racv will have some serious concerns, sounds like anti competetive practice to me

nackers is that Andrews farm in SA? which dealer?

Get the Ford Dealer to put it in writing at least. They cannot void your warrenty because you used a different mechanic (this is not true for a second hand car warrenty which I am pritty sure specifies that you need to use a certain dealer). Just make sure you have had a qualified mechanic fix it. If they have rejected you claim without properly explaining or for proper reasons it would be a breach of contract.

If they continue to refuse your warrenty just go to court, file a Summons of Liquidated Claim. People think going to court costs a lot but if you do it yourself it can be cheap. Will cost you like 100 bucks depending on your state (if you lodge a SLC you do need quotes and invoice, your log book properly signed and a copy of your ford service contact or book outlining your terms). You can have a person serve it or you can do it yourself. Walk into the Dealer and provide them with your Summons and then see what they do. At the very least would be worth the 100 buck just to see their face :spoton: . If you need any help just call legal aid and ask them a few questions. Im sure if you did this they would be very helpful with your turbo issue and with any further issues in the future. :surrenderwave: I reckon the $100 gamble would be worth it to get all your money back :spoton:

oh and I have all my receipts for services on my old turbo and none of them say they cleaned the supply line (at the same dealer)

have you spoken to service manager there? they tried to deny something on me and I started to make noise and he came out and was very helpfull

Better ask who did do the servicing? not you?
