I have Cadence 6.5inch splits in the front of mine. I made up some baffles to mount the speakers due to not fitting the oval hole in the door... but, you can buy these baffles from alot of shops now anyway, so fitting shouldnt be a drama.

And the tweetres fit in the stock A pillars nicely too.

6x9s? Just go for 5x7s and a decent sub.

Meant to add this also:

Speaker polarity:

Front right positive: Grey with green trace.

Front right negative: Grey with black trace

Front left positive: Orange with grey trace

Front left negative: Orange with black trace

Hanra... You are a legend! :pinch:

I am just about to fit some Alpine R-type 300w 5 x 7's and just thought I should check if anyone had listed the speaker polarity for front and rears.... And there it is!

I am guessing that the rear will be similar with a black trace as the negative.

Cant wait to hear the Sound difference. The Monty Ghia had the premo sound but I didn't rate the bass performance. So I stuck a Sub box with 2 x 10" Kickers and a old skool Class A Kenwood AMP. The bass now is great, how ever the stock speakers were letting the subs down. Now the install of a 4ch Fusion AMP and the 4 x Alpines should balance everything out.

I will try and get some Photo action going after I have finished.

Where possible allways fit round speakers as they give the best sound quality. As for fitting the tweeters in the original a pillar spots, you will never get the music centred it will allways be to one side or the other. Mount as far away as possible in the kicks near your feet.

sorry to dig this up

are all the bf front speakers 5x7's?

I pulled the rear ones out a couple of weeks ago and put a JVC head unit in the glovebox, ran wires to rear for the sony 6x9 4ways I put in (I know its not ideal mounted them from the boot side and drilled holes to fit mount them)

I want to replace the fronts now as well (budget sound is awful on the xr6t... wish I had of looked harder for one with premium sound... but never mind)

cheers for all info :)

I'm going to be upgrading my audio system soon. Just wanted to know is it usually better to go with a 5x7" speaker or getting a 6/6.5" speaker with baffles in the doors? I've been asking around and all the car stereo places reckon that just getting baffles and a 6.5" speaker would be easier, but I never have any confidence in those people. it's going to be a DIY job. so is there much difference in the setup?

cheers :)

all bf front speakers are 5x7

As I said in a previous post round speakers are far better than any other combination whether it be 6x9 or 5x7. Round speakers give better sound quality and less distortion, have you ever seen anything but a round speaker in any quality car, home or studio audio setup, NO.

to hanras original post about improvement. the standard HU alone doesnt have enough power for any aftermarket speakers as most are 60wrms and higher and the factory head unit only pumps out about 20wrms per channel. so until you put an amp in you wont be seeing the full potential it`s like getting a 300rwkw tune without injector upgrade. if you buy really high output speakers and crank your stereo when it starts destorting it can actually f*ck your speakers if it is under powering your speakers. this typically happens to subs but the same thing came happen to a speaker.
