I found the same thing Luke.

I did the deal for a friend on a Focus and the salesman just worked out the RRP of the car including options, on road costs etc. Then he sent us to the business manager to work out a deal.

it is NOT possible to do $55000 on a normal typhoon let alone one with leather and a roof, let alone an R-spec with both!

May not be possible on an R-Spec or a phoon with leather and sunroof, but its certainly possible on a normal phoon. In fact $55k seems to be the going price for a BF2 phoon if you shop around.

Here's a starting point

if the saelsman is doing his job properly, he will work out the retail on road price, so you know where you stand originally. Then its his job to try and find a price that you will buy the car at, there is a bit of negotiation, then, the most important question the salesman can ask is "if I can get the manager to sign off on that price, will you buy the car?" as salesman, we know hat you can do a car for, we can't sign off on a deal though, so we have to show the manager that the customer will put a deposit on the car for the agreed price, some salesman just don't want to do it all by themselves, or they just can't...

I've noticed it gets a bit complex for some when factoring in all the on-road costs and GST to meet the agreed price. Surprised by the amount of dealers that still use the old contract pads though, you'd think in this day and age they'd be all computerised to calculate everything for you and make sure that there's still a margin in it for the dealer.

We use digital contracts that calculate GST, Stamp Duty, LCT, all the margins, most do, not every salesperson has a computer on his desk (obviously I do) but the managers have been using this for a long time

regardless of our opinions, as jeff said, wait for the orion to launch, see what you think, then weigh up the saving you will get on a BF vs what you get in an orion
