flow Member 6 Member For: 21y 8m 8d Location: Melbourne Posted 21/06/03 02:13 PM Share Posted 21/06/03 02:13 PM I'm looking at getting an xr6 in November when my current lease finishes. I have 17inch wheels on my current car (VX Late model camira SS) so I'm used to a firmish ride. For those with the 18inch wheels (standard ford kit), do you think the extra cost is worth it? Do they make a significant change in the car's looks? I haven't seen them side by side to compare. If you've driven both, do they feel significantly different? Also - has any one had any issues of tyre wear? I go thru tyres like they're beers on my current ride - not suprisingly as the IRS on the rear is crap... And yes, I have bent a mag after an unfortunate incident with water 1½ deep and a pothole. B) C.

I _know_ I want to!I'm counting up the options list as we speak... 18inchers, Leather, Premium sound, side airbags, sports sterring wheel and sunroof. Hm... it certainly adds up.I've told the G/F that I'm looking at a Caprice. When I present the idea of something vastly cheaper she's going to let me have all the options I want. I hope!C. The ride will still be heaps nicer than the VX with 17s. I'm not just saying this to put sh*t on Commodore, my mate has a VU ute with 17s and there is no comparison in the ride between BA and Commodore, BA is heaps better. Good luc ktricking the Mrs, hope it doesn't backfire on you!

So they certainly don't do anything bad for the ride quality.

I wanted the 18's but got scared off by the difference in tyre prices (hearsay). Anyone got actual figures on this? Yeh, the OE Dunlops are about $500 - $550 ea but you can get other cheaper brands for a couple hundred less if you shop around. I expect 18" tyres to come down in price a bit more as they become more popular.
