I have an xr6t that has been edited with wog cooler f6 CAI exaust mod running 260atw.

I want to know if fitting a 83c thermostat would help or do I need to do a retune for the thermo fans to come on?

While I have seen tuners fit these I have never seen the point, even after an edit I have never seen my car get above half and that's with giving my car a flogging on a hot day with the aircon on.

The ecu will start to pull timing based on several temp related paremeters, fitting a lower temp thermostat, will keep the temps lower so the ecu will give a more consistant timing setting, basically it does not give more power, it keeps the power consistant

I've been really considering replacing mine as the fans are now becoming annoying. Does anyone have a maker and part number of said thermostat and a suggested place to pick one up (if not, I can ring around to a few larger mobs to see if they have in stock or can order one).

Most automotive shops, eg Repco will sell them to you for under $20

I paid $13 for my 72 degree one that I have in the EF...

you can run a cooler thermostat but depending on the tuning of cold start parameters you might still be on a little choke (cold fuel enrichment) at 80 degrees. . You really need to check with someone who has access to the tuning tables. eg at 80deg you might have +3% fuel being added phasing out to 0% at 85deg

whats the standard stat rated at? 85? 88? I'm considering doing this too

My Car: BA MK 2 6speed M. Was 93 c , is now 88c.

Go to Super Ch. Auto and look for Tridon Thermostat TT1 -190 = 88c, or TT1- 180 = 83c.

Was just under 13.00 dollars and is the right shape so the O-ring will seal.

When you get the new one, drill the extra hole that is in the original one !!

if you're going to drill holes, you might as well put holes in the original, it will do the same thing
