Hi all,

Just dropped my car off to get the front spoiler re-sprayed after it was scraped by the guy at the service centre I mentioned in an earlier post. They gave me a BF wagon to drive around in till its fixed.

I drove it in to work this morning (the wagon that is) in my usual heavy footed way...and couldn't get the fuel economy to budge over 12.4 L/100Klm...

Now I know the wagon's not a turbo...but even when I drive my T around like an old m*1e it still sits around the mid to high 14 L/100k mark.

Is that normal? Im averaging around 380 to 400 litres per tank...pretty ordinary I reckon!!!

My SV8 did slightly better than that...!

Gee another fuel economy topic.

Well ive always sat around the 13/L per 100, regardless of old man driving or floggings around Bathurst, it rarely moves and I always get 450K's a tank. It did improve a lil after a C&V tune but doesnt move round much.

My car always reads around 14.5 - 14.7, but I get around 400 - 450 per tank. Most time when I work it out manually the actual economy is in the low 13s or high 12s.

it also depends on how often you re-set the computer, if it hasn't been reset in a long time (ie the wagon) it will be showing an average for 1000's of kays

True...

I just thought that I should be getting atleast 400 k's from a tank in my T'

This theory of the XR's running rich in the early stages of runnin...is it true? If so, does it sort itself out automatically, or does the 3000k service include changing the tune...?

At times on my way into work I could swear I see the fuel guage needle working it s way down as it drops!

not sure about the richness, but there are just so many variables when it comes to fuel consumption, do you live in a hilly area, stop start traffic, hot weather, loading up the engine, weight in the car, it just never ends I've always got around 450kms out of my tank in a standard tune, now with the big tune, it gets around 380kms to the tank, but on the highway it could go up to 550, with the standard tune on highway it was almost 700, these things are heavy, so when you put the boot in, they use alot

I'm on mid 14's and I get about 440 a tank, you should be gettin more than 380

if you saw the type of driving I do, I'm not really surprised I only get 380 with a 300kw tune...

Yeah they need and average RPM per 100kms reading, that might help
