My dad's stock 5lt v8 au v8 ute with half a tonne of tools is faster than an sv6, and it's got 175kw versus 195kw! No torque down low makes these things a total slug off the mark. I have no doubt a ba taxi pack could keep up with, or even beat an sv6. I simply wouldn't consider owning one, especially after owning a T.

Why is it all you guys assume the reason for someone buying an SV6 is that they think it is quick ?.

The OP didn't mention it's speed....I'm certainly not getting one because of it's speed. I'm getting one because they look nice. That's a matter of opinion....but so is most of the comments in this thread.

I haven't even taken one for a test drive. Does that make me stupid ? If it does, then I was equally stupid when I ordered the XR6T 4 years ago....that I never took for a test drive :spoton:

They're just cars boys....something to get you from point A to point B, and something that you feel happy with driving.

Amen, brother! :w00t2:

That's why I love my Black Beast... not just because it's got grunt, but I enjoy driving it. I look forward to coming home from all my overseas work trips and getting behind the wheel again. It's also why I just spent a huge chunk of change on upgrading the audio system, to make the drive even more enjoyable! :stupid:

As for Sam... he knows he'll be back... :spoton:

Why put a body kit and big wheels/exhaust on a car if performance doesn't matter? They're obviously trying to be sporty.

On your second point, are you seriously suggesting that people shouldn't test a vehicle before they buy it? That's rediculous. How can you compare cars without driving them? The fact you ended up with a decent car (for the money/in its class) last time was more luck than good management if you ask me.

No different to an XR6. Trying to be sporty, but they are just taxi's.

I think that most of the guys on this forum might take offense to this comment... This does not paint a good picture for those who are buying the SV6.

These cars are a passion, a hobby, a distraction from day to day life and in some cases provide a bit of stress relief (as long as they are not driven dangerously).

Where is DBOSS when you need him !!

I'm not suggesting that everyone buy a car without test driving it. I'm saying that I sometimes buy a car without test driving it. There's enough reviews on the Net for anything (including cars), to satisfy me without having to test drive it. Given the opportunity, I try to go for a test drive....but not a necessity.

My Lease on the XR6T finishes next month. I was specifically looking for a smaller car to use less petrol. Looked at the XR5T, the Mazda 3 SP23, the VwJeta Turbo, and the Honda Civic Sports....and took 3 of them for a test drive. I had actually settled on the Mazda 3 SP23....when along came a Expensive Daewoo SV6 brochure. Decided (with prompting from the wife), that was the car for me.....so much for getting a small car.

As for your comment on spoilers and body kits, like Saleen mentioned, this would no doubt include the XR6.....and any number of other cars on the market.

Body kits look nice to some (including me)....doesn't mean I expect the car to go super fast.

Nah....I think most of the guys know we have different reasons for owning a car. Afterall, I don't make the assumption that everyone with an XR6T is a dickhead like the idiot on the video posted in another thread.

My XR6T is a nice distraction too (that's why I am keeping it)...but it's still just a car (albeit, a nice one)

Hello,

Firstly, thankyou for the great website, community assistance, tips and tricks to help me enjoy my Turbo. Sadly after 4 years, it has been sold as I needed to get a newer car that was under warranty.

After much number crunching regarding upfront costs and running costs, I have purchased a VE Late model camira SV6.

This post is not to debate the pro's and cons of either car, but for those of you considering the same or similar move and wondering if purchasing or upgrading to the the current Turbo is for you, I wanted to share with you some feeback on the commodore.

Firstly, it drives better. The balance in the Late model camira means sharper and more precise cornering. The 5 speed auto is better than the 4 speed auto I had in the T, but I didnt have the chance to test drive the 6 speed auto, so can appreciate that that would be smoother again.

The running costs are obvioulsy lower, as is my insurance and excess. The seat comfort is not as good as the Turbo as the Ford seems to have nicer sculpted drivers seat.

The trip computer has more options, but the auto lights on and off is driving me crazy already. Also bad luck if red is not your favourite colour, cause every interior dash light is red of some description.

To summarise the whole thing, the Late model camira handles better than the Turbo, but the Turbo is greater on acceleration and torque ( I miss it already ). The ultimate car would have the handling of the current Late model camira and the engine of the current turbo with the 6 speed transmission.

Hope this helps someone. If the rumours of the twin turbo prove to be true, then I will see you in a couple of years.

Thanks

It's funny that you mention the SV6 handles better than the XR6T as I have the VE SS after having previously owned a BF XRT 6/auto. I find mine to be cumbersome to a point with more body roll than the XR6T. The T I found to be a delight & nimble with more chuckability & with far more vision when negotiating corners. I miss the T in regards to the ZF gearbox which is far superior to the 6 speed GM model, & as such I would imagine the 5 speed to be even worse. Top end grunt in the VE SS I feel does not have the kick in the pants as the T, but this could be deceptive. The car does feel more stable in a straight line & the front end less prone to kickback under brakes than the T. As a drivers car I would rate the T as the overall better car ( having had a BA XR8 before the T ) than the SS. Structurely the Late model camira is a tighter car in the body with less flex. Fuel wise there is little in difference in regard to consumption. Why did I change to Late model camira you ask, well the T developed a structuaral problem in the body at very low K's that Ford could not fix without rewelding the whole rear end which I would not agree to (Body flex). I still miss the T, but for now will wait for the Orion to come out. Yes your right the auto lights on are a pain in the Butt with the headlights comming one when I pull up under bridges & entering my garage during the day!
