QLD Posted 13/10/07 09:56 AM Share Posted 13/10/07 09:56 AM (edited) For some bizarre reason, my T has gotten a huge knock when the engine turns over, and then when put into drive but idleing, it has a loud grinding/vibration sound.I drove on a gravel road today, and bottomed out for a second on some rocks. Would it be possible that the bottoming out has moved the gearbox slightly? I'm trying to figure it out. Also, the grinding seems to be worse when I'm turning left, and goes away when turning right, but it also seems to be closely related to my throttle pressure too. So it's not just a rock stuck in the suspension or something.Ahh its driving me nuts, I'm hoping the tranny isn't f..ked otherwise I'm up for a fortune. The grinding/vibration seems a lot louder from inside the cabin, than it is from the outside. Can barely hear it from outside the car. But inside its very loud and shakes the whole car at idle.Help! QLD Posted 13/10/07 10:21 AM Author Share Posted 13/10/07 10:21 AM It wouldn't be these "bent rods" that are all over the forums?I tightened the manifold on the weekend... I doubt it'd be that, but I'll check the bolts again tomorrow, and check the exhaust too. But it honestly sounds like it's something to do with the engine/transmission. As if its grinding. Result was similar to what you are mentioning. Lots of vibration, etc which would go away on slight left hand turns. The damage was not easily visible and I had to get right under the car to notice it and even then I had to compare back to back with another Falcon to be sure. Repair cost was $400 for them to drop the bracket, pull the body bracket mounts straight and new transmission cradle/mount and bits. Not saying it's the same, but worth a look. They are generally made out of a rubber compound and if the car cased out you may have broken one. Have a look at the motor and see if its leaning to one side. QLD Posted 14/10/07 12:55 AM Author Share Posted 14/10/07 12:55 AM Ok thanks... hopefully it's something along those lines. I have to drive myself to the airport and back today, hope it doesn't make things worse. Will drop it into a mechanic when I get back. I tightened the manifold again, and it wasn't that... I hopped underneath and couldn't see any noticeable damage, or rocks or anything wedged anywhere. It doesn't look like the transmission has been hit at all.So frustrating. If it changes when you turn then something is shifting with the weight transfer. What ever is shifting could then be coming in contact with the floor pan possibly and transfer vibration through the car.Could be wrong though.
