I have heard from some motorcycle mates that they is a clear flim like window tint that goes on the outside of headligths that stop stone chips and some cracking.

Might Help

I had problems with the clear stick-on film due to the curved shape of the lense. Couldn't get a satisfactory result...

So I did modify the standard Hella clear protective cover & ordered another (so both 'foggies' now wear protection). I used a drimel (small grinder) to "thin-out" the tabs. This allowed enough clearance to fit over the lenses and between the plastic molding. But only just. It is a very tight fit.

SIXFAN > I've done about 800kms over the past 2 weeks over highways with the clear protective covers described above. So far no cracked lights due to nosecone flex! Previous cracked fog light was definitely due to a stone.

XR6NA > re placing the relay in the fuse box as you described: I originally was going to rewire the current fog light relay, then I was going to position an additional relay in the fusebox. But once I got into the project I dimissed both ideas. The former because it all got too hard. And the later for reasons I've forgotten! I'm not sure but either the relay was too big for the space or there was a plug there for a factory plug-in point or something.....I just don't remember...to many rums ago now! Sorrryyy.

ASNU > I now have a picture. Remember, this is my homemade job, not an mesh unit from Eln Ford. I did mine prior to all the recently made avaiable mesh units from Ford dealers etc. Mine cost me about $30 in mesh, $56 for the badge, and about 1hr of my time (lets just say that would have to be worth at least $250/hr +GST!)Will post mesh photo here in a moment....if I can work out how!

56 Mainline,

That looks great. I prefer the smaller mesh as you have got as the open one as per the grille looks too big and awkward. Where did you get the mesh from and does it have a name/ size etc. and did you just screw it into the back of the spoiler or is there some type of clamp available.

I had a bit of a look and I think I might mount the relay in the relay/fuse box behind the battery. There is a gap in the rear right hand side that looks big enough for the relay and wiring.

That is exactly where I put the relay for my son - it fits perfectly and the wires come back up and out the top adjacent to the factory ones that go towards the battery at the right (looking back to the box) front corner.

The mesh was the same stuff available at Supercheap (& probably from Auto1, ISP, and Autobarn).

It is branded as "Autotechnica" aluminium mesh. Available in silver, black, blue and red.

Obviously, I got the black!

It only comes in one size, more than sufficient for the intercooler grille.

I cut the mesh to the width of the opening, height to fit as follows:

The mesh is anchored in place at the top by being fitted in behind the black plastic trim at the top of the intercooler opening (this trim just pulls straight off & fits just as easily back into place).

Then tight fitted the mesh to the base of the plastic nose/bumper/air dam. I just happened to have some plastic clips that suited clamping into the mesh aperture, but required a screw to be fitted from under the air dam (yes, I drilled through the plastic air dam from underneath! But you don't notice the screw heads unless you stick your head down there & look for them!).

My passenger side fog light fell out and was hanging by the wires I popped it back in and thought at the time this aint Euro quality, the mount system is a couple of plastic clips and my guess these lights are just jiggling around under normal driving.
