Guest 56Mainline Guests Posted 12/07/03 12:03 PM Share Posted 12/07/03 12:03 PM XR6NA>Inserts ordered from "Blackwoods". They service the mining industry here in the Hunter with everything from screws to bulldozers. Cheapest of all the Hella suppliers. They do have branches in Newcastle & Sydney, don't know about elsewhere. In order to remove the fog lights: the plastic air deflector under the front spoiler needs to be removed. Then the whole fog light bracket & light assembly removed via the bottom gap created when the air deflector is removed. The light bracket has 4 tabs on it. These are squeezed one at a time & pulled upon (each allowing a tang to come away from a lip in the spoiler that holds the bracket in place). It is probably the worst piece of engineering I have ever come across! The tabs are easily broken, there isn't much room to work with & stuff-all ground clearance (there is a surprise...not), & the whole process takes alot of time. And this is the way to change a blown bulb in the foggies! Once you have successfully removed the first light, it becomes obvious how it all works, and you don't have so much trouble with doing it again. Even the local Ford dealer said that changing a bulb would take them 1hr with the car on the hoist! I suggest getting a look at the bracket from the gap created when the airdeflector is removed. As far as light protection is concerned - I've used the 3M stuff too. But now am looking at modifying the hard plastic cover that I just happen to have lying around! Then I'll see whether I'll get another.Turbo6man>I agree you can do it from the top. The wiring loom exits on the guard-side between the battery & the fuse box. I looked at doing the neatest job I thought possible, using only a single relay & a minimum number of break-ins to the loom, & a minimum of wire, with the ability to bridge-out the mod very simply. The overflow reservior is easily removed by only 2x 10mm bolts and moving it out of the way to the rocker cover (enough flex in the hoses to do this). Undo two battery clamps & remove the battery - that ain't hard. The plastic battery box is only held in place by a plastic screw removed by a 1/4 turn of a flat screw driver - easy. Then the heavy gauge (I'm guessing they are 4 gauge) positive & negative feed wires removed from the fuse panel - that's 2 more 10mm nuts. Then lever out the top of the fuse box panel (held in place by about 4 tabs). The panel then folds over to the space that was previously occupied by the battery. If you want to do live testing without putting it all back together, run some jumper leads from your battery on the ground to those posts that the 4 gauge supply was bolted to.Doing all this was fun (I must lead a very sad life!). I learnt a little bit more 'bout my car, gained some more confidence with the tinkering aspect & how it all 'comes together'. If it wasn't for the new relay - no one would see what I've done.ASNU> I'll agree with your views on Eln Ford at Wyong. I've dealt with them in the past, and can only say good things about them. Never ever one bad experience. Also they are very competitive on new car quotes.I also have fitted a intercooler mesh - a homemade jobbie. Looks very good, my opinion & others. Complete with "XR6 Turbo" badging. I've been asked to make & fit one for a mates BA XR8. Should be a few beers in that....Cheers all,Marc... I phoned Repco and they claim they are not a Hella agent anymore, anyone know where I can get these for a fair price?I am going to wire a relay as 56Mainline has done, I had a bit of a look and I think I might mount the relay in the relay/fuse box behind the battery. There is a gap in the rear right hand side that looks big enough for the relay and wiring. Did you look at doing this 56Mainline? Posted 20/07/03 03:26 AM Share Posted 20/07/03 03:26 AM I've posted this elsewhere, but.... I noticed both sides of the plastic nosecone had "pooped" out from under the front guards, and I suspect the fog lights are cracking because of the close fit in the nose, it flexes and the lights crack. I didn't have any stone chips on mine and it cracked from the bottom to the top, like it had been squashed. I suspect the protectors may not work and the flexing is the cause of the fractured lights.... Just a thought. Or is there other places that I can visit that may be cheaper or can do the job? Any info is appreciated. Ford quoted me $102 for the light, which I am not paying. I havent been able to track down a spares place around me that stocks them yet, but there is some useful info in the thread I started a couple of weeks ago.Try hereLet me know how you get on finding a spare. I havent fixed mine yet Link to comment https://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/3898-cracked-fog-light/page/4/#findComment-38411 Share on other sites
