I just went to Bing Lee and paid $179 to increase my warranty from 1 to 5 years for my 47" LCD.

Seems like a good deal if something goes wrong.

I agree and think its great peace of mind. We do pay sh!t loads for these types of TV's and hopefully when its time to make a claim they do the right thing and not give us the Ford run around.

Although it isn't a "show stopper", something to consider when deciding on an LCD/Plasma Screen, is to note the number of Audio Inputs.

Your average garden variety person has a Digital Set Top Box, DVD Recorder/Player...and perhaps a Playstation/XBox.

Most Screens have various Video Inputs (eg Component, S-Video, Video RCA)...but limited Audio Inputs.

The problem is that the Component & S-Video Inputs often "share" the same Audio Input. This then stops you from connecting the STB and DVD via the "better" cabling options unless you use a Switch Box for the Audio. Of course, this doesn't effect you if everything passes through a Home Theatre Amp.

In the above scenario, the STB gets connected to the DVD and then the DVD connected to the Screen. Problem with this is that you have to turn on the DVD to watch the STB.

BIGGER PROBLEM....you have to explain to the Wife :

    Which Controls to Use
    Which Inputs to Select
Which Day you want the Divorce to be formalised

Just something to consider :crybaby:

the samsung lcd's do come with an inbuilt tuner.

ib, that 42" plasma you posted about on the other page with the 3.4k price tag is the one that is now 1800.

check out dtvforum.info, they have good info over there. a quick search there will give you a fair but of info.

the plasma/lcd debate is opinions only so you have to make your own mind up on that one.

I am in the same boat as you and will be making my decision in the next couple of weeks.

you will not be able to get a 1080p tv at your price point, and im pretty sure not alot is actually broadcast in native 1080p. 10 are the only ones I think, and tv have good scalers in them these days

Ok boys, its time to buy a tv!!!!

So far I have priced up a Samsung Plasma & LCD as they seem the best priced with all the options im looking for.

The best price I have been able to get for both with below details are:

50" Plasma, Full HD 1080P = $4,000.00

52" LCD, full HD = $4,950.00

Firstly do you think that's a good price?? Second, do you think I should wait until the boxing day sales to pick up a better price??

Im in Melbourne so if any can get me a better price, I would prefer to help out forum members.

4k for a full hd 50" plasma sounds like a good buy to me!!

they will probably be good deals around on boxing day but im not sure that there are massive savings to be made. if paying cash make sure that you dont pay retail! there would be around 10% discount for paying cash I rekon.

I saw a Soniq (no name brand) 50" HD plasma with a built in HD STB for $1,999.00.

For half the price, it may be worth the gamble.

They also had a 42" for $1398.00

if you go to JB's you *should* be able to get a new samsung 50" plasma for under around $2,700.. not the 1080p model, but a good screen nonetheless...

otherwise the hitachi 1080P 50" will be around the $3400-3500 mark..

not top shelf but not sh*te either

Yeah, in Sydney.

JB Hi-Fi had them, and a mob called Clive Anthony.

I'm gonna get one as a 3rd TV.
