http://www.theage.com.au/news/reviews/keep...=rss_technology

Ive only just started to look at the JB Hi-Fi stuff and there always beating everyone elses price so far.

Yeah they have always done right by me, NEVER payed full price or even close to full price on anything. I saved over 1800 on TV and sound system, getting my 360 from them next saturday, bought all my car audio gear there. I rate them!

I would not get LCD, get a plasma. You wont need 1080P as you are only running a XBOX 360.

LCD's are good had a Hitachi 32in, but I upgraded to a 42in Panasonic Plas. I would go a Plasma any day, colours are better and picture quality is way ahead!!!

You could get the Pana 42in plas for around $1800, it is one of the best and the best quality versus price plasma tv out there. Go to DTV forum they are really helpful.

Just on the whole Plasma Vs LCD, LCD's do use less power, if that is a concern to you, plus if you are using it for a PC they recommend LCD's over plasma. You need to compare the picture side by side, everyones eyes are different. Out of the whole wall of tv's both my mate and I picked the hitachi out straight away. But for sports or fast action they recommend Plasmas... (although ive never noticed lag/blurring on mine)

I'm pretty sure to that some games support 1080i (optional) as well as 720p and 16:9 for the 360. PS3 is 1080p standard.

Each to their own, plus once it goes wrong out of warranty just get ya cat to push it over ;)

That's the old model I think, the 46X3100 is the one I got.

Where's that review from? The whole bravia concept is about sony's image enhancement which none of the other manufacturers can (supposedly) match.

Closest one I could find for the Panasonic Viera

Panasonic TH-42PX600A 3.5 STARS

RRP $3299.00

Review Date

Friday, 11th of May, 2007

Features

Screen size : 42.0 in

What's Hot

Excellent performance in standard definition and PC modes, Wide range of connection options, HDTV tuner

What's Not

Minor problems in high definition and standard definition, Front panel-flaps

The Final Word

The Panasonic TH-42PX600A performed brilliantly in standard definition and when connected to a PC. High definition content and HDTV also looks quite good on the unit, but not as good as the other image modes. If you own a media centre PC or want your DVD collection to look great, this is definitely worth consideration.

I have an LG Plasma which blew and X,Y Board one month out of warranty. Lucky I got extended warranty. The warranty repairer in Mackay (SeaScale) repaired it in less than an hours time. He told me it doesnt matter what brand you buy as long as that brand has a warranty repairer in your town as every brand has their problems. I also asked which has more trouble Plasmas or LCDs and he said they both have their problems. My LG is great for watching sports but my mates Hitachi 37" LCD is great for watching movies and normal TV and the remote swivel is pretty cool.

My brother inlaws Teac 42" Plasma also blew up and is having a hard time getting in repaired under warranty. He went to WOW superstore last week and bought a 42" Plasma for $1000 because he got sick of waiting for his to be repaired. I think it is a Konya or something like that

The current LG models dont suffer from this problem anymore, well apparantly. It was more common in models pre 2007. PDF file attached explains.

I bought the Sony 46V2000 (46" LCD with built in HD tuner).

Best bang for buck at the time. I had a mate that works at an electronics store and I bought it for $3400 with 3 years warranty.

This was when the X series came out and was priced at around $7000.

In the shop it didnt look as good as the X series but once home it looks bigger then 46" and its soooo clear.

Im very happy with my buy. You cant go wrong with Sony.

Oh and btw I will never buy any electrical goods for the price shops ask for. My TV was advertised for $4600 with 1 year warranty.

Cheers

Mate here is what I know and this comes from a self proclaimed geek and a Channel Ten technician.

Watch for TV that mention HD, they will say HD ready HD capable or any other combo. Look for the resolution, You are mad if you do not buy 1920 by 1080, any other resolution will have to adjust and suffer as a result.

Now Channel Ten in Sydney broadcast the most Native HD ie 1920 by 1080, Seven and nine broadcast a modified HD, resolution unknown.

Sony is the best brand and vcomes with inbuilt HD tuner, howevr for a lot less Samsung which uses Sony screens is cheaper but no inbuilt HD Tuner.

This is a good thing, cause you want a HD tuner with a hard drive, prefersably one with two tv cards in it. I woish I had a link to show but I dont.

AS for LCD V PLasma, it really depends on what you watch most, news, home and away, there is buger all difference in quality, were Plasma really comes into its own is sports, particulary the fast moving sports wit panning like football and cricket. These are far superior on Plasma than they are on LCD.

Hope this helps.

Very interesting KS.

I thought it was sony that uses the samsung screen, then again I thought it was most LCD's.

You will only really notice the higher res with blue ray and HDDVD. Like I said, side by side in the shop you noticethe diff very little but at home you will never know (for TV and DVD that is).
