jungo Member 3 Member For: 17y 6m 4d Posted 09/10/07 10:36 AM Share Posted 09/10/07 10:36 AM hi guys im 22 live in Townsville. and I am looking at getting a XR6T.I am looking to mod it in the next year to 300kw. I love manuals but have not driven a semi yet. I like to shift gears and id but id like to be able to drop some smoke I know the auto can chirp like the best but there is something about shifting gears and I have never driven a auto and been happy with it. but I have never been in a XR6T with a semi auto. I have owned a few cars but never a new one and I dont want to jump in blind. I know cars are a cash hole but I want a small cash hole if there is such a think lol. some of the reasons I want a XR6T is its a 4 door that you can put a family in and on a Saturday night go to the drags have some fun. I have been thinking of waiting till next year gives me some time to save some $$$$ and by then ill be at my job more then 8 months. but the wait is killing me I want one now. this will be my first new car and my first big loan. can you guys please give me some advice on a few things if you dont mind.I have had a bit of a read on this forum and found out not to get a 5 speed man box and that gearboxes have trouble. also hand break does not work always work lol and oil sumps are plastic? also the ABS can have some problems.whats a No Go when looking at a XR6T. I know 5 speed manual is a No Go what else should I look out for are the first Ba autos problem child's are they any good? should I be looking at getting a BA MKII or younger for less problems I just dont want to buy a dud.also when getting XR6T is it true that even a K&N filter can void your warranty? if that's true whats the point of getting a new one off the floor if you cant do anything to it.I was thinking of going private or even a car dealer ship. and if I get one from a dealer ship what are the common things they will BS about I dont trust car dealers. should I look at getting my own finance from my bank and paying cash? or a car dealer loan and how long did you have to hold your job before there were going to hand out 25,000 my job is full time casual 40 hours a week 40,000 a year. anyone work for BBHD here? I have been at my job 4 months I herd it was hard to get a loan from a casual job. the only reason its casual is because they can sack me when they want no questions asked.also is anyone else 22 here I will need to get the car Insurance. I have my car now Insurance and its $200 a year that's fire and theft. im shore it will jump up to $3000 a year but I think my bank trusts my driving because the girl put my old 1980 mazda down as $2000 market value.look guys I am very sorry for making a massive post but I dont know anyone and every time I ask I hear something different. I am abit lost as what to do.Cheers for Reading.jungo Link to comment https://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/38920-looking-at-getting-a-xr6t-what-do-i-need-to-know/ Share on other sites
groper Member 611 Member For: 18y 2m 11d Posted 09/10/07 10:54 AM Share Posted 09/10/07 10:54 AM if you buy new and modify it, technically your warranty is void only on the parts effected by the modification, not the WHOLE car... so, for power mods, you void your engine and driveline (if you cant hide the mods and get caught that is)ive moded mine brand new and I cant hide the obvious mods... I dont care, if I pop somthing ill pay for somthing better that wont pop next time...finance will be too easy, they throw money at everyone these days, no matter your job...dont EVER buy a car (or trade one) from a dealer unless its brand new or you will pay too much!!!! go private and look for somone who isnt too young, has a nice house and looks to be a respectable citizen with a good job and a comfortable lifestyle... they look after they`re cars and get them serviced regularly and drive like pussy cats most of the time so you should get a decent car...dont get a 5speed or you wont be able to get your 300rwkw, they break. if your a manual man like me, go the 6 speed manual. the 6sp auto is good but it is still an auto and still feels like an auto and I didnt like it like a true manual... you have to drive one to see for yourself, go pretend that your gonna buy one off a dealer and go for some test drives, then leave!insurance is going to be a killer, very $$$$$... best bet I reckon is to get your parents to own/insure it with you as a listed driver if that's possible? should be the cheapest option especially if your parents have good rating and other insurances they can combine with etc... South Member 323 Member For: 18y 6m 19d Gender: Male Location: Perth Posted 09/10/07 11:50 AM Share Posted 09/10/07 11:50 AM I reckon, if your position is only casual, and you only make 40k then you should save for atleast 50% of the purchase price... If you get 1hrs notice from your work, then you might be stuffed. Just have a ponder about that one.Nice cars, hence why I bought one. jason_85 Member 30 Member For: 18y 1m 19d Gender: Male Location: Mackay Posted 09/10/07 01:52 PM Share Posted 09/10/07 01:52 PM lol I thought you were me!!!!! hahaha nah I am the same age in tville and in the same boat as you! dont go to a dealer. I am going to buy one early next year and will probably go through a broker and jsut tell them what I want and just wait till they find it!as for a loan...... save up as much as you can as the deposit and shop around (try www.ratecity.com.au) I found it fairly helpful. although if your job lets you salary sacrifice have a look at that option. do some calcs because it is better for high income earners clocking up a few kms to make it viable.insurance I was very surprised. currently wih aami and havent had any trouble but got a quote through for a 2005 BaMk11 manual turbo and was like $915 although I have held insurance since I was a bit over 16 and comprehensive for 3 years with a clean driving record. this quote was a bit over $100 less than what aami can do for me. also from what I have noticed there isnt much around our area. so shop around and be prepared to buy from brissy or even interstate to get what you want. you will be surprised on car transport costs and will def come in alot cheaper buying down south than the overpriced cars up here! Anyway let me know if you have any more questions I have been researching the exact same thing for a while! Nothing compares imo. I was chasing a manaul it took me 3 months but worth the wait. I've had it 3 months and love it. Go the 6spd a lot less issues with these. Use the search feature cause there's lots of threads about both boxes. The only way to avoid a lemon is be very vigilent when test driving and take someone with you that knows chit loads about the car.Insurance........ I'm 24 nun of the big companies(aami, suncorp) were intersted cause I was under 25 even though I got my work ute covered with them and rating 1 for the last 3 years. so went with Just Car Insurance. I pay about the 1k mark, but with high access.anyway be patient, the right car will come. But then either way you're better off waiting until the new model comes out next year as the 2nd hand prices will die in the arse for sure.If you have masculinity insecurities then by all means get a manual, otherwise you can't go past the ZF auto for the best of both worlds. Before you do anything though make sure you can get the insurance (and that you can afford it) as most insurance companies think that the day you turn 25 you are capable of driving....and not a moment beforehand. EXR6T Member 224 Member For: 17y 6m 26d Gender: Male Location: Melbourne Posted 11/10/07 09:50 AM Share Posted 11/10/07 09:50 AM hey man,I was in a similar boatim 22, and just got a second hand xr6 turbo..they are a great car and im lovin the one ive gotif you can afford a 6 speed then go for that, im already replacing the clutch in mine and its 5 speed, they tend to not handle any more than stock power in the 5 speed so if you want to do work to it...which you will it is probably worth investing in the 6 speedas for a loan DO NOT go through the car yards, they compound the interest on mostwhich means if you borrow $22,000 at say 12%PA over 5 years and paid it off the VERY next day you would have to pay back like $30000 at best if the company is willing to offer you a discount and not charge the early termination feesI really recommend going through a bank for your loan.. if you have been banking with a company for a while say ANZ or Commonwealth, they are more likely to A) approve you and b) get you a cheaper rate.if your buying a second hand one then I suggest getting it checked out by a little more than RACV cause although they are good for family cars, most wouldnt know heaps about turbo engines.you'd be best getting a good tuning place to check it out as well as RACV. make sure if there are any issues that they get fixed up before you buy it..try and get one with already upgraded brakes cause standard ones are sh*t, safety first if your wanting a family car, plus standard brakes once you get over 110kph get brake fade really bad and you have almost no braking powerthis thread could go on for ever with the amount of stuff to look out for. as for insurance im 22 and had a not so perfect driving record (speeding fines after speeding fines), so my insurance was $2000 for full comp but AAMI offer a skilled drivers course which I did which gives 10% off until your 25 and I know for young drivers its hard and expensive if you havent really held insurance for ages.ring insurance company's before you think about buying an xr6t cause my mate bought one before he knew he could get insured and because he wrote off his last car he cant be insured with it at all yet...dont think that high k's is a bad thing either. a car with low k's could be getting sold for a reason, mine has high k's but the guy was driving from melbourne to sydney and he was a fairly old dude so I dont think he fanged it... make sure you get the car extensively checked before you buy it mate...ive only had mine a while so I dont know heaps about what can go wrong and what to look for exept what I got told to look for ..when buying a used car also get a REVS check on it to make sure it isnt under finance, because if there is money owed on the car and you buy it. the finance company who is owed money wont give a sh*t bout you buying it, they will just TAKE IT FROM YOU...sh*t I could go on forever with this I think and I know hardly nothing about them...give this thread a few weeks mate and youll know exactly what to look for lol Link to comment https://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/38920-looking-at-getting-a-xr6t-what-do-i-need-to-know/#findComment-583621 Share on other sites
pigrat Member 3 Member For: 17y 5m 29d Location: Sydney Posted 17/10/07 12:51 PM Share Posted 17/10/07 12:51 PM Hi Jungo,I'm currently in the same boat as you. I' am looking at getting a MKII manual Ute Next year after the new model is released. On the insurance side I have a Car and Bike Full Comp with NRMA @ 60% NCB, They have quoted me $1800 for an 05 Ute. Insured for 30KOn a personal experience my Father has a 04 GT semi auto. its nice to drive on the HWY and traffic. but when u pick up the pace it just doesn't seem to keep with the pace. Also on the odd occasion you might give it a boot full it takes a few secs (as most autos) to drop back then wham it all hits, pretty dodgy in some situations when you weren't intending all of it to kick in. Its like the power is on or off, no in between 'But hey that's me' I just think you will have a lot more control in a Manual, especially with these cars and there 500nm + of torque on tap. If you can't pay cash at least save %30 of the cars value before you get a loan, As the last thing you want is to be paying $600 a month on repayments at 22yr old...Anyway best of luck with it and see u on the black top... Stronger engine, better gearbox. Also some advice, wait till the Orion is released.. You will see XR6T's going very cheap...Good LuckOzzieps my 4 spd auto chirps when changing gears... and true and save as match as possible, finance is a bastard especially when your thinking of modding as well...
