Turbo Bolt Missing

Hi,

I am in the process of selling my car and thought I would do the right thing and have everything checked out.

I was looking around the engine and noticed that one of the bolts near the turbo was "missing". It actually looks like it was over tightened and the top of the bolt has snapped off. Which is sort of annoying, but looking at the position and use of the bolt, I think it only serves as a support.

Can anyone confirm this, I have found a picture of the actual bolt I am talking about. Please refer the attached picture.

Cheers

SJW

Another picture (borrowed from another forum member that was highlighting a different issue ) , the bolt is the one in the red circle ( with the big red arrow pointing to it ) lol

The bolt is still in there, but it is missing the head of the bolt, so can't just get a new one to replace.

There has been no noticeable loss of power, so turbo seems to be operating at full efficieny.

Is it worth it to have it drilled out and replaced ?

It will start to loose power as the others come loose it will also make a lot of noise.

Any competant mech should be able to drill the bolt and either extract it with an easy out of retap the hole. From memory you should be able to get in there with a right angle drill to drill the bolt. The only concern would be that the housing is aluminum and the bolt is steel so there may be some binding issues. Nothing a little gentle heating with an oxy wouldnt fix though. :spoton:
