Ok I know there is a good How To at the top of the page and the actual job of changing the oil isn't too hard, but my problem is a little bit more complicated.

As I said doing the job is a piece of piss but getting the oil is a little more difficult.

Castrol what ever it is that is recommended in the How To isn't available over here in the UK so I've come up with a cunning plan and would like to sound it out with you guys before I did it.

On the back of the Castrol bottle it says that it is suitable for various cars. Now Vauxhall import the Holden/HSV coupes into the country and sell them under the VXR8 brand. Sooooo...... would I be able to use the oil that Vx specify for the VXR8 in my ute's diff, I'm assuming they will have any additional additives as well if not already premixed. Failing that, would Jaguar stuff do? as it mentioned as well.

I may be missing something and there is something basically flawed with my thinking but hopefully someone here might know.

Cheers

I used the same stuff as above. I replaced my diff, and the shell already has a friction modifier in it. Suitable for 4wd and xr6t! :buttrock:

The new castrol SAF XA 80W 140 has the additive in it already. The old SAF XA did not have the additive. I think it was a 75W 140. I have changed to this oil and it has done wonders to my diff. I Recommend it.

Gary, there must be a similar product over there for LSD equiped cars. It might be worth getting the specifications of the right oil and then contacting the local Castrol or Shell oil distributors to see if they have a product similar.

I have had some success doing this with oil for my bike after an American tuner recommeded a product that is just not availalbe here. Took me a couple of emails sent off to the service dept of one or two oil manufacturers and I had an idential product with a different name.

Might be worth a try mate!

Just get some good stuff sent over

I will, I'm slowly getting a big list of bits and bobs for the car (just got to work out how to pay for them :D)

Thing is with the diff whine present I need to change the oil asap.

Doing a little resarch I can get Redline 80w-140 and the friction modifier from them as well.

I've seen it mentioned on here so might go with that just now untill I can get some stuff from down under.
