Well its my birthday tomorrow and im getting the Tripod as a present.

I'm definitely set on the Autometer Cobalt series, so that decision is already mate.

I'll probably get a Full Sweep Mechanical Vacuum/Boost Gauge up to 20 PSI.

And heres the tricky part.. deciding which other 2 gauges to get.

Which two would you say are "essential" in our xr6t's?

I'm leaning towards Oil Pressure and Fuel Pressure at the moment. I think both of them are fairly important to keep an eye on, mainly the Oil Pressure. Fuel Pressure is something to monitor over the long term, and it will give early signs of dying fuel pump perhaps? Or is Oil Pressure more important? I'm liking the idea of the AFR meter but they look pretty boring sitting there in between two full sweep gauges (mind you I havent seen one runnin in real life).

Im open to all suggestions! :) I searched the forums and couldnt really find much on this specific question.

Cheers,

Mike.

Mechanical inside the cab :buttrock:

I would go the oil press fuel press and boost but only all electrical but that's from an uneducated owner lol.. where abouts you getting them from? BPT motorsport in Wangara do the full sweep electric for that's boost, fuel press, oil press $289 each.. pretty good price really

cheers

Yeah a fair few people run mechanical boost inside their cabin with no worries. Its only that thin little hose you have to feed into the dash, and worse case scenario if it blows off or something you get a bit of air rushing through at 10psi - its great for getting the dust out of the dash :)

I'll probably get the gauges from modyourcar.com.au , they sell the same gauges for about $100 less than BPT :) Although that's where we are gettng the Tripod from.

I'm going with Boost/Vacuum, Oil Pressure & Air/Fuel Ratio in a Tripod myself.

Just go with whatever you like, but one thing I don't like is mix & matching of guage style's. By that I mean, stick with the Cobalt series for all your guages. ;)

I would go oil pressure and oil temp. Oil temp is good so you know when you should thrash the engine as you can check if the oil/engine is warm.

Oil pressure and oil temp.

Losing oil pressure is terminal for your engine, so keeping a eye on it would be a good idea.

Oil temp, Your water temp gauge is a poor indicator of a warm engine, oil comes up to temp long after the water has. So oil temp will tell you when the engine is ready for a good fang.

AFR gauges are natoriously inaccurate, dont waste your money.

Fuel pressure while important is a long term issue, you are better off getting a gauge attached to the fuel rail to monitor it.

Ok so looks like these three gauges are the way to go.. thoughts anyone? Are the ranges of the values appropriate for an xr6t. I thought getting a 20psi boost gauge will give myself a more accurate reading than a 30psi one - based on the fact that the needle shouldnt ever budge past say 15psi ever

Oil Pressure Electric - $413 (expensive!)

Oil Temperature Electric - $245

Boost/Vac Mechanical - $129

WARNING, the Tripods are designed for electrical gauges. Mechanical gauges may be to long with the fittings that need to go onto them. Suggest you take your tripod along with you before purchasing any mechanical gauges as you may find they dont fit.

I think you should just get Jeff's gauges :banghead2:
