on saturday, Fatsex, Envy-T and myself installed a fuel pump into my ute.

first of all I would like to thank both of them for their expertise and letting me supervise the install :innocent:

its amazing how a fitter, a man wife and a chemist can install a fuel pump and still have the fuel gauge read correctly :buttrock:

our method of install? remove the whole tub and install with the tank still in the ute, made more sense seeing we didnt have access to a hoist and really cbf dropping the diff.

didnt have my digital camera with me :surrenderwave: so theres no pics of the super happy fun afternoon, but I believe there is already a thread on this install??

again a big thanks to Fat-Tony and Envy-T for the install, and to Envy-T for the hospitality :beerchug:

out of curiosity, I was wondering if anyone has every experienced fuel surge the way the sedan boys do with less than a 1/4 tank of fuel??

cheers.

Mr Man.

edit: spelling.

hey dags

when I fisrt fashed my ute with the standard pump I got fuel surge by the top of second gear with anything under 150ks till empty. that's why I fitted external and swirl pot.

I hope you dont have the same issues

I got a small amount when we first put the pump in (actually, it was more like a 250rpm flat spot at ~3500rpm), took it for a spin to make sure the hoses werent gonna blow off before we put the tub back on... I filled it up after, so will wait to see if it does it again.. although there was prob only 1/8th of a tank left. I never had any issues with the standard pump with my capa generic 8psi tune.. even with 1/4 tank..

and I know for sure the pump is on the bottom, we made sure of that.

Juddy Juddy Juddy I have done this on a sedan a few times now, and only use Gates submersible hose!!!

I picked it up for him on friday arvo, aswell as the GSS 341 from petroject, and it had a full fitting kit with it.

The only thing I can think of, is that maybe the fuel pickup is facing a different way, and at WOT it's being starved, but we will wait and see, cos getting that tub off is a PITA!!!

It took 25 mins to get the tub off, and cos we were being ultra careful with the sender and float, it took us almost an hour to seperate the swirlpot! Now that we know you need to use brute force, it can be done in 5 minutes, carefully still.

And we used the filter that came with the pump. The factory one is to big, and it is always covered in crap. I tried cleaning mine and a whole can of carbie cleaner later, it was still dripping black. It's amazing how dirty our top dollar fuels are!
