Well the topic is strictly not true.....infact the network is working but I just finished my car pc and have been trying to connect wirelessly from the pc to the router.....but no luck.....it connects but is assigned an IP address that is nowhere near the 192.168.0.X range that I have allocated within the routers Web GUI. I know the card works correctly because one of my neighbours has an unsecured network, that I have connected to and well lets just say, slightly utilised but the signal is weak as.....

So....are there any ideas as to why it's not correctly connecting to the router ????

Cheers guys

Kilmo

why not manually enter the ip in the carputer?? then it will be in range.

As for why your router isn't assigning not sure there are heaps of options on even simple routers these days..

If the carputer is getting a 169.x.x.x address then it cannot "see" the network. This is the windows default IP address.

Either there is a range issue and you cannot connect to the signal or you do not have DHCP setup on the wireless or you have not setup the carputer correctly to connect to your wireless.

1) WEP/WPA is case sensitive, check you have typed correctly. In some cases it will report connected if the case is incorrect, however you will not be issued an IP address.

2) Check to see if the router has MAC filtering, if yes then add the MAC for the new device.

3) Check the range of DHCP, has it been set so that only 2 devices connect or 254 devices and anything in between. Also check to see if those address' are reserved by MAC address.

4) Although the wireless may report to have good signal strength, the handshake may not occur as either the router or carputer's transmissions power/range is not strong enough.

Remeber to check all the basic settings, Wireless is very basic to manage and maintain, however if one simple setting is not correct, things tend not to work as they should.
