Hi Guys, Ive been contemplating getting the bonnet on my 04 Turbo resprayed as the factory paint is a little thin and patchey (under bright light you can see the metallic is uneven causing a cloudy effect.

I have been quoted $1000 for a front end respray from 2 different reputable panel shops. As my car is lightning strike metallic, the front end basically needs to be done, bar and blend guards..both shops recommended against it, and said im too fussy! lol

both bar and guards are in perfect nic, its just the bonnet that bugs me (im pretty anal with paint / panels).

I looked into the carbon bonnet route, as a replacement (keep the original for resale) but it seems ADR and vic roads may make it tricky here in melbourne, and I cant afford to keep on getting defect notices as its a daily driver.

I was thinking about getting another xr bonnet (perhaps cheaply 2nd hand) or new as I think they are $400 from ford spares and having it sprayed matte black, with or without the narrow stripes near the outer edges..

I dont want the common GT stripe look, but felt this might look alright (think vintage XA GT bonnets)

...also I have aquired a rear GT wing, and was thinking of having this black also to tie it together....

I dont want ricey look, just something different and tough.

I'd like some opinions guys thankspost-12237-1189058923_thumb.jpg

Heheheh ok that's 1 for the No!!!! count.

without stripes make a difference to your vote?

please keep in mind I would be keeping the original bonnet in the shed for easy return to standard.

I was probably abit harsh mate, I admire anyone for trying to get away from the standard look as much as possible but I'm not sure if the black bonnet is the way to go. You might be able to pull it of on say a white or red XR but not so much on grey. Just my opinion

Ok so where kinda 50/50 right now...

The car is lightning strike silver, has dark tinted windows, in case the pic isnt that clear.

so stripes along edges or full black bonnet, matte or gloss black?

I would say gloss black as it would mostly match the brightness of your current colour. I personally like the silver grill aswell as black. But at the end of the day you do what u like most
