From a post I did in May 2006.

I did some experimenting today and discovered the following using a K&N pod where the airbox is and a turbosmart (TS) kompack BOV:

Std paper Filter + Std BOV = tiny bit of gobble gobble

Pod + Std BOV = gobble gobble (loud compared to panel K&N)

Pod + TS BOV = Pssshhhh + very tiny bit of gobble.

Pod + no BOV = Loud rattle snake

Std paper Filter + no BOV = very tiny bit of rattle snake.

Std paper Filter + TS BOV = Loose setting (Pssshhhh...Pssshhhh) tight setting (Pssshhhh)

No intake pipe + TS BOV = explosion of psshhh + rattle snake

These are the facts......on 5.6 psi!!!

basically block off BOV + pod filter with no airbox around it (fully exposed) = rattlesnake

just did the mod and its a pretty loud flutter.

cheers!

Hey guys.

I wasnt quite sure which BOV post to put my question under.. COZ THERES SO DAMN MANY!!! lol

But here goes...

I went to bunnings and got all the bits n pieces I needed.

Popped the bonnet and fiddled around, I had taken the cross over pipe off and realised I got plastic chairs stoppers, not the rubber ones and for the life of me I couldn't get them to fit!

Anywho, it was 5.30 on a Sunday arvo n Bunnings was closing at 6 so I knew I couldn't make it back in time. Desperately figuring out other ways to do this, I've blocked off the BOV on the right side and blocked off the vacuum line on the other side.

So basically looks like this...

bovmod.JPG

I find a get a great low down flutter(between 2-3000rpm), but up high.. its not so great coz u can bearly hear it over the engine/exhaust. And yea, I too have noticed a slight drop in throttle response.

I kinda figured this would be the same thing as removing the BOV coz it has nowhere to vent.

Is this right??

Please guys I'm all ears..

I done this yesterday and the lack of lag and sound is quite good. Car feels quicker smother and easier to change gears.

I think the factory blow off valve was put there to stop noise more then anything!

I know its been covered a million times, but for the life of me, I can't grasp how removing the blow off valve isn't bad for the turbo!

I agree it sounds good, but I'd hardly consider it a performance mod. If anything I find the turbo takes a little while longer to do its job. Altho having an auto, if you go flat stick straight line im pretty sure it stays on boost between gear changes I don't really notice much difference. just stop/start driving is a little laggier.
