Has anyone had an instance of the chair rubbers melting? That is my fear. I'll keep an eye on it.

I havent had one melt ,but ive had to blow the top right off.

I do not recommend using chair tip rubbers as I have had one split.

I do recommend however going down to your local auto shop and purchasing 1" rubber hose caps. These are used for blocking off heater hose lines and are suitable for heat and th pressure.

The reason you felt less power was because you were more than likly dumping boost straight out your BOV, the small "vac" line, is also a BOOST line, when your on Boost, this applies boost to the LOW pressure (atmospheric) side of the BOV piston, there is a light spring in there too to help keep the valve shut, the boost through the small line and the sping are STRONGER than the boost and the BOV stays shut.

now, when you disconect the small line, there is no balancing pressure when on boost, the boost applies to the face of the BOV piston, overcomes the spring pressure and open the valve, Less boost, less power.

when the small line is hooked up, and you close the throttle, the small line is AFTER the throttle butterfly and will be in a Low pressure (or vacume) state, this applied to the back of the piston, along with the boost, which now has nowhere to go becasue of the closed throttle butterfly, overcomes the spring pressure against the piston in the BOV, and dumps boost into the intake, UNTIL the boost falls to a point where the spring can override the boost and close again. this is a normally functioning BOV. it is quiet and help prevent RAPID deceleration of the turbine assmbly, although the turbine is Light, it is spinning VERY fast, in high boost, up around 200,000 rpm or more, when you dont give anywhere for the boost to go, the compressor becomes a big brake and slows the turbine fast, this can put alot of strain on the shaft, bearings and wheels.

If I were running up and over 15psi, I think I would use a Good, high volume BOV, remeber, they only dump EXCESS boost.

Under 15psi, to stock cars, ( BA-BF Falcon) the turbo has poven to be very tough little piece of gear, and I think No BOV, when disconected corectly, would help with throttle response, but do it at your own perile.

My experiance with turbos is limited to LARGE earthmoving gear with 4 turbos that are large enough to put your head in the inlake, thhey dont like suddon stops when they are making 40-50 PSI boost. they fly apart, and take out $400-500K engine along the way.

I only have about 20 years of playing with these thing, so take what you will from my comments.

I hear what ya saying and this would be correct for a conventional valve but with the XR6T I disagree, purely cos the bosch valve is not the conventional orientation. If you have a look inside a std bosch valve... it is reverse vented and therefore boost acts against the side of the valve and therefore does not push it open as in say a Turbosmart valve. The vac line simply opens the valve (and helps keep it closed on boost, but very little compared to a TS valve). On 6 psi I highly doubt you would loose boost with the vac line blocked (I tested it and no difference - my experience though).

You must have got the "home brand" version. LMAO I am still using the pair that have been on my car for almost 12 months. And they have been removed a number of times aswell.

The caps are a good idea, but for 1.95 for 4 tips, can't beat it. And a hunt in the shed gave me my 8mm bolt to block the vac line.

Do what Adrian said, and get some proper rubber caps. If this had of been ingested by my turbo, it would have meant a rebuild and immediate divorce!

I've got a metal cap which fits exactly on the metal bit which protrudes from the crossover pipe. No way that thing is getting blown off or broken like that!

hi guys,

I'll tell u my story.

ive got a ba manual xr6t. ive got the capa flash tune running 10 psi.

after getting tune done I was quite happy with the flutter I was getting with the stock bosch unit.

however I wanted a louder more noticeable noise.

I thought ill try out the kompact dual port bov, didnt like the whoosh noise.

what I was after was a nice loud flutter, more than what I was getting with the stock bosch unit.

after reading several forums, I came to the conclusion that removing the bov all together would do the trick. I did it last night and the flutter is crap...... not much more than what I get from the bosch unit.

after knowing that having no bov has slightly more wear on the turbo it wouldnt be worth keeping the bov off coz the flutter im getting without the bov is pretty sh*t. as I said not much more than with the bosch unit.

I also noticed that since ive removed the bosch unit I have lost power......I used to always get wheel spin in 1st and 2nd and traction control would always come on.... it seems like its lost the extra kick of power aswell.

im going to put the stock bosch back in and reflash the computer to see if I regain the power back.

once ive done this im going to be back on the mission to get the loud flutter again.

basically im after the loud flutter (actual flutter not pissy flutter) while conserving power.

has anyone achieved this?

if so, can u please give me some hints?

ive got a short 3inch 75degree alloy pipe comming stright from the turbo to a custom box where the battery used to be and a k & n pod filter, running no bov at all and the turbo flutter I get is absolutely riduculas, with the windows down it almost hurts your earts when backing off from full boost, I'm now looking to fit the standard bov onto the new piping to try reduce the turbo fluter because of how stupidly loud it is, to give you an idea my mate can hear me comming when I'm about 3km from his house. ITs ojly fun for a little while too, then it just gets annoying.
