I run a business IT service company.

My staff charge out upto $1200 per day each (10 people) and I need to pay them a heap for working on public holidays.

All my contracts say that a public holiday is a gazetted NSW holiday, but APEC Friday is a Sydney basin holiday only.

If we get a lot of calls, I could be up for a fortune in callouts.

They picked Sydney because it's our most recogniseable and impressive city (important due to the global medial coverage this meeting will attract).

Sorry guys but Sydney is a hole.

Yep,

We have known about this "holiday" for many months.

It does not change the support arrangements with our clients as we still need to provide support.

Being a public holiday, I need to pay to have staff on call for any requests

Try comng out to Auburn, I was born there and lived there all my life... I am disgusted at the state of Auburn at the moment. They want to show the world leaders the true Sydney send the out west.

I work in the same industy Zap, and your obviously a smart business man, so any callouts are going to be charged at a far greater cost than normal, thus covering the cost for your employee to be on call.

If I charge out a full day, its quite a few dollars more than your $1200, however if it is a public holiday then the rate goes up considerably more, if its an emergency after hours call then the client needs to bend over as it will cost them a small fortune, so on and so forth.

I am aware that it hits the hip pocket, but for a business, that will be absorbed in no time, as if the day never existed. We have over 40 staff and having to close for a day hurts, but the projects keep rolling in and you cover your administration costs by charging a little more here and there... An extra 20 grand on a 500 grand contract is small money, you know what I mean.

I am so happy to be overseas while all this APEC nonsense is going on at home... :crybaby:

So happy that this morning it took me 45 mins for my taxi to go the last 1.5km from the airport to the hotel here in Singapore. Some dolt decided to organise a Ironman race in 35 degree heat with 98% humidity. :slap:

Don't need to go overseas for that pleasure Phil . Windsor road can be known to dish up that time to cover just under a KM. M7/M2 merger farking debacle. 30km car park to the city and I mean car park :ermm::censored::censored::censored:

So you're saying that if I call Zap out, I'll be paying extra? And if I was in business, then I'd do the same and charge a little more when you came along to buy something from me?

Doesn't that mean that we're all (ie end consumers) ultimately paying for this ? So this is like an APEC tax?
