In addition to that, you have to ask yourself what's the alternitave to Howard?

Rudd is in support of the APEC meeting, and would have done the same thing (as it seems with all of his latest policies, "I'll just do what the Liberals are doing" seems to be his new slogan).

You got it

Kevin Rudd leader of the AlternateL iberal Party......

Trade can also be discussed over Video Conference Calls. When we buy almost 70% of stuff from China why are we talking to the rest of the world. We can't even sell Australian Made to Australian People.

Also By giving the day off to everyone aren't they giving the opportunity for more people to vent the anger at these protests?

It's one day.. get over it.. every primeminister would have done the same thing..Thank him and his chums because you can have a business, you can drive the car of your choice. If anyones to blame, blame the chumps who riot and make all this security necessary.

Can't have your cake and eat it too.. setup your shop in indonesia or somewhere.. see how lucky you are there.. at least you won't have all the world leaders there once every 22 years.

APEC runs for a whole week, it is just the world leaders who are here from Friday (except GWB) who arrives on Wednesday at an additional cost of $17million.

While it will be nice to have an extra day off, I am just annoyed it is for such a pointless excercise and I am left with the bill.

I can guarantee that the only Worldwide Media coverage will be of protester getting beaten by cops with the harbour bridge in the background. We will not gain anything by having APEC hosted in Sydney, only inconvience and damage.

I like it because it means I get to fly home to Perth for the long weekend instead of staying in Sydney again :)

But yes I do feel sorry for businesses, I saw how quite a lot of places will be severely affected especially by the road blocks..etc

I understand your frustration completely, but while you're angry now, blaming little Johnny is misplaced. It would have happened regardless of who is in power.

We all know the media coverage will be all about the professional troublemakers (protesters), but the Sydney setting is as much to impress the attending leaders as anything else. Do you make your invited guests sit in your spare/storage room or somwhere nicer?

The disruptions are all due to the trouble makers, of which 99.99% whould have no clue what their protesting about.
