Regardless of who's in power, it would be on in Sydney. The holiday and security is due to the brainless protesters who have no idea what their protesting about (and the terrorist threats, etc). For everyone else, we all know that there are many factors in relation to the economy, but the facts are that Labour has a long history of poor management (without massive Union funding they couldn't manage their own party). As far a Rudd being a good leader/CEO, what a joke! He is a sniveling wheasle, he has constantly been caught out lying in order to appear to support whatever the popular view is of the day, regardless of if it contradicts his previous comments, but as usual the media plays this all down because they traditionally support Labour. And the comments on the bubble bursting in the Sydney housing market and blaming Howard for it, what the! Are you just looking for someone to blame for your own poor financial miss management? The Sydney market was out of control for years, the so called bubble bursting you mention was a small hiccup compared to the recent growth, and it didn't affect all areas. At the moment, the market is fairly stable, with many areas reporting marginal growth. Most of the issues are NSW State Government based (LABOUR IN CASE YOU MISSED IT), primarily due to the insane land taxes introduced by Bob Carr. As a result, many rental properties were sold and investors took their money to other states or overseas (Bob Carr himself bought property in NZ).For some reason, probably due to the longevity of their term, every problem is being blamed on Howard and the Liberals, regardless of who is actually to blame, or if the alternative Government would have done better (this seems led by the media and the Unions). It's a sad reflection on our society when the majority of people are so easily led by transparently misleading propaganda. Then again this is the country that puts a US owned, low local content car on a pedestal as an 'Aussie Icon'.dito !

Also, the actual cost is debatable, the Saturday Herald listed all of the 'new' equipment purchased by the Police for APEC. The only new thing they purchased was the water cannon, all of the other items listed suchs as jet skis and trial bikes were all already existing. But hey, lets not let the facts get in the way of some Labour propaganda. Everyone also seems to forget that NSW is curently under Labour, and the state Govt. eagerly put their hands up to host APEC. Yes they bought it for APEC but I'm sure it will be kept for any future requirements to blast away a few hippies. And that's no waste of money IMHO
