So why did you deside on the MB Quart brand. Ive never really heard much about them? Pricey?

Quart's have been around for along time, long long time. German engineered quality, though not made there anymore.

The yanks made them popular in the early days of competion car audio due to their flat freq response and thus they havnt really changed the signature sound, which alot of caraudiophiles will say is, well, bright/crashy, while remaining polite and conservative, generally good sounding speakers, though far from high end.

Enjoy the sound mate, its a good stepping stone into high end audio... dyn's, focals ect

Got the car back at 9pm tonight. The guy working on my car is a bit of a perfectionist, so he stayed working on it all day and wants to do a little more finishing work on Monday.

I've got a lot to do over the next few days before the BVW3 Cruise departs on Wednesday:

  • Read up on how to use the Alpine VehicleHub Pro, but the music coming from my iPod right now sounds awesome
  • They put the wrong iPod cable in, so that needs to be replaced the correct one (audio is great, but I want video as well)
  • The famous "Ford audio whine" is now a big problem, but the guys reckon they can fix that
  • The standard Ford battery isn't up to snuff, so a new heavy duty battery will need to go in

Even though it's taken a bit longer than expected, my initial thoughts are that I'm very pleased with the quality of the work. Once the finishing touches are put in on Monday, I'll take some photos and post them up.

Now you will all have to excuse me. I have some serious RTFM'ing to do! :spoton:

The Black Beast goes back into the shop tomorrow morning to fix those little annoying things. Now that the BVW3 cruise is off, the critical deadline for getting it all done by COB tomorrow is lifted... but only slightly!

Photos coming soon.

Quick update...

  • Just went for a spin down to Canberra and back. Everything sounds awesome now... :buttrock:
  • The dreaded Ford audio whine is gone! It's amazing what happens when you ground things properly... :buttrock:
  • Alpine Video iPod interface works, but it's freaking useless to use. Just a A/V passthrough, can't control it from the VHub so you have to fiddle with the iPod directly to get music or video working. Complaining to Alpine directly on this as what is advertised is not what they deliver in the product! :spoton:
  • Worst case scenario is that I go back to the audio-only interface that works (albeit not a "full-speed iPod interface") and when I visit the US next, buy the right interface module from there to bring home.

On a side note, things got sidetrack yesterday morning as the Airbag light suddenly came on (didn't want to risk going for a long drive without the airbags functioning properly). I put my car into Ford service and they said it won't take long to figure out. Well, the Airbag module had short-circuited somehow and they had to order the part in - be done by lunch. That got pushed back to 4:30pm... then at 5:30pm I was asked "do you have side airbags installed?". Idiots ordered the wrong part, but installed it into my car anyway. Airbag light is still on, but I've been assured that despite it not being able to talk to the non-existant side airbags it should work regardless and to come back when they have the right part in stock. Pricks can wait until October! :gooff:

Looks good mate.

Nice and neat.

Q1) Can you make the video full screen??

Q2) Where do the golf clubs go??

1. Yes.

2. In the boot or the back seat (my full-size cricket bag still fits in the boot nicely & it's bigger than my golf bag).

The video played from my iPod in that photo is the Top Gear "Polar Special" in HD widescreen (which the iPod seems to squish it a little bit). I need to fiddle with m4p encoder to fix that...

Pffft.

Dolly Parton must sound really good now.

With all those button and dials, I paid the guys to install the ejector seat option in one of the buttons at random. Should be a great "funniest home video" option.

P.S All that money could have brought you a supermodel for an hour.
