I used to have an EF, was just a falcon though, not an XR6 but it was a nice car to drive, I would reccommend one as a first car :roflmbo:

They have poor brakes for such a large car, though not to hard to upgrade cheaply. Is it a manual or auto?

I had an EL XR6 and a EL XR8, loved them both.

There are a good car. I used to have a white EL XR6. Make sure the cooling system is up to scratch though. Check for swelling around the top and bottom hoses and if the oring to the back of the water pump has been leaking. Leaking head gaskets were abit of a problem but easy to fix. The radiator tanks used to leak aswell.

Mate as a young bloke myself (I'm 19) and having had an EL XR6 as my first car I can say they are great.

I never had a problem with mine, except for the brake discs (through my braking though)

Great first car to have, I'm sure your son would be happy with it also :roflmbo:

yep I agree great first car, a few things to watch is like judd said the cooling system and if its done over 200ks ask if the head gasket has been changed if it has that's good as they usally go after the 200 mark.

I had an EL XR8 with the full Tickford bodykit but it ended up stolen. Pricks. The XR6's were quicker than the 8's though, 15.1 down the quarter in manual form, they handle and drive quite well but as mentioned the brakes are pretty poor, but nothing a good set of slotted rotors and pads wouldn't fix.

I just sold 1.

if your young bloke is after a manual take care ..

have a real good look where the clutch cable goes through the firewall.

the ef/el have a big problem in this area .

splitting around the hole for the clutch cable and the metal on the firewall does split/when this happens you will have no clutch and will need to remove the brake master cylinder and weld a plate. to inspect the fire wall pull the sound deadning stuff off the fire walland have a good look.also they are prone to noise in the diff.if the car hasnt got coolant walk away.
