I'll reconfirm what ZAP has said before, it is the ABS arming itself.

Had mine back in under warranty for the same reason a while ago, and have done a lot of checking myself.

Definitely ABS setting itself, seems nothing to worry about, albeit a little disconcerting to the uninitiated.

ABS arming itself hey...?

Mine also does a wierd thing, where most of the time (it did it tonight also) when im parked on a driveway which allows me to roll backwards in neutral, after a few metres I hear a similar thud sound.. even if ive been driving the car then just stop on the driveway and reverse back again without even turning off the car

I have the same "thud" coming from the left front after reversing.

My opinion is, its the suspension, a wishbone moving in a bush

that's what I think.

But trying to pin point it with out a load is very hard

It seems there maybe more than just the one cause.

As some are saying it's coming from the passenger side and mine is defaintly coming from the drivers side.

Some say its just after they take off mine has done it like after 15 minute's of driving and has not done it for days till yesterday.

It happened after taking off from lights and turning right.

It is making me think it is suspension steering related but why is it only doing it every now and then.

If I was to take someone for a drive it would more than likely make me look like I was imagining this sound as it would not happen.

Iam hoping it's not the chassis starting to walk. Has anyone heard of chassis problems when upping the power and tractsion with or BA/BF's ?

The abs module ison the left of the engine bay, it is a bosch system and every time to start the car at some stage it will do a self test.

which includes the flowing:

A solenoid and valve check and it will also run the pump motor and do a pressure test.

this may be the noise, it is quite audible in mine.

cheers

Thanx to you all. I thought that I was going nuts. I usually rip the T out while Mark is @ work and I get the same as XF Falcon. I have tried showing it to other half who thinks I have lost it. It only appears after the car has been sitting then I reverse out of drive start moving foward and right before I try & hit next doors cat..... thud thud thud. Really wished it was the cat but no cat still lives.

D

Thought that I'd update on the disappearance of my thud..thud.. after moving off. Yes we have had the mystery noise removed........ Prior to mods thud thud have done all the below in one swoop and ................. no noise. The thud is gone....

XF you need to go to Simon. Get off your lazy :msm: is this the nudge you needed?????

For the guys saying it happens just after they have reversed and start driving,Its the steering rack loose.happened on my old ladies terry.Exactly the same noise that some have discribed but only after you have reversed and started driving foward.its not the ABS sensor arming its self.Get it checked and see.

lil_bodes, hehe that might just be what I needed to get my ass in gear :P

I spoke to Ford_Power when he came over and he said its the ABS doing a check. To see if this is what your car is doing, go down your driveway like normal, however when you take off, keep your car under 10kph.. because that is the speed needed before the self check happens.

If you can drive for like 10 seconds under 10 kph, and as soon as you go over this speed the sound happens then its most likely your ABS :)

Give that a shot.

FPV TRANNY, from now on I'll keep looking at exactly when it does it and I'll see if its something other than the ABS module from now on. Thanks
