Dull Thud Shortly After Driving Away

Hi all,

I have a 6 month old BF Mk II 6 speed ZF auto. It goes really well. I just wanted to ask you guys if its normal for a mild dull thud to occur coming from the front of the vehicle when slowly rolling the car forward a few metres after starting. It seems to occur shortly after turn right or left at full lock the most often. It sounds like an air vent (or valve) shutting. It is mild and I usually don't care much about it. It has zero effect on driving the car. My wife however got concerned. It might be coming from the left of the driver in front (somewhere near the engine or turbo or wheels?).

Anyone hear of this. Is it normal?

All the best,

Walker

Sounds like the ABS pump. They can make a single thud noise.

Mine does the EXACT SAME THING, when I take off after reversing or being in park.

Once I let the car roll down the driveway in neutral and it made the same THUD but louder and sounded like something plastic was scraping on the front wheel... yours ever done that before?

Once it makes the sound it wont do it at all for the rest of the journey.

Its like a THUD, then a smaller thud, thud thud then it stops. You can almost feel something hitting when it does it, it sounds like something plastic is hitting something else.

When I eventually take mine in for warranty work I'll ask them to look into it. In the mean time if you figure out what it is, let me know cos its very annoying.

Ive had my 2007 BFII Turbo, 6 speed manual for just over 2 months from brand spanking and mine has done since I picked it up. Not sure what it is. It only does it from intial start up and when I turn for the first time. I'm guessing it's somethig to do with the steering. It doesn't do it again for the rest of the trip though

Yes getting same thing at first I though it may have been my lock nut in door pocket but no, then thinking maybe key/ key fob hitting steering wheel or column.

Then there could be the suspension bushes.

Looks like it is common so make sure if you discover to let everyone know what it is as I will if I get to the bottom of it.

Ahh...the no-cost optional thud....alot of T's have it...mines a late series 1 BA and it has it....Fraud are aware of it and to quote their service manager "its within the specifications of the vehicle"......

Its highly likley that its just you vacuam control solenoid for your AC/heating, all its really doing is getting primed by your engines vacuam

it resides right near the fire wall on the LHS in behind the dash, mine been doing it since day 1 so it checked out and made sure all was operating right and it was, it just seems some are more noisier than others, (ie Different diaphrams inside them)

Zap if you ABS is thumping , get it checked asap or bleed your system, you might have an air lock in it... ABS systems dont work to well with air locks.
