Hey guys

I'm up for a couple of new tyres fitted soon. I hate the ones on there at the moment (on it when I bought it), but am too much of a cheapskate to do all 4 at once. It's a long sad story..... :runaway:

So I'll have a couple of top notch tyres (GS-D3s, PP2s or similar) and a couple of the ones I have now, which I'd class as "touring". There's plenty of tread on the current ones, and they probably wear forever. The reason I hate them is that I reckon their wet weather performance is very ordinary. There's been a couple of times, where I have felt the rear going squirrelly and actually stepping out a fair bit in the wet and I'm talking about maintaining speed only - no flogging. And that's with TC on.

Mind you, I'm not really game to take off TC in the dry either. They could well be equally crap in the dry... :doyou:

I haven't ever noticed anything err, weird about the front end wet or dry. Seems to grip and stop OK.

I'm running 235/40R18s with a stock T, I don't push the car anywhere near it's limits, and I'm not a burnout kind of guy.

So I'm interested in opinions/advice on whether I should put the good ones on the front or the rear and why?

TIA

Mate the front tyres steer and do %80 of the braking, front tyres must always be in good shape, properly aligned and correct tyre pressure.

Your best tires should always be on the front, all your steering and 60% of your braking is done by the front wheels.

80%, KS you must have some great front brakes :doyou:

As I never have 1200+ bucks sitting around to pay for a full set of tires, I only change two at a time. When the rears wear out, I put new rubber on those rims and put them on the front.

By doing this I never have less than half tread on the front.

Not anymore, my Brakes are 57000 km old, time to upgrade, never changed a component.

Just to show you how much tread is left on the front tires when I change them to the rears.

They should last till mid next year. Unless I do too many of these. :stirthepot:
