I was looking into the C4 and Turbo 400 and spoke to Protrans Keas and Al's Race glides and they all recommended a Turbo 400 because it would handle alot more power. They all seemed to think that the C4 would not last long.

You can get a overdrive for the C4's and Turbo 400's there around 3K but you get four gears so great for highway runs. Both boxes are similar money but the Turbo 400 is the way to go.

I think your spot on what your saying. The Turbo 400 is proven to handle more then most can give it.

I didn't realize the do an overdrive for then but if they do it would make a perfect box.

A properly built c10 will never fail you, they have been proven time and time again over time, Ive been told bob grant auto's garantee there c10 will take 1000hp, street or strip, written garantee

don't take my word for it here is a quote:

The Ford C4 and C6 transmissions are two of the best performing, most durable transmission ever built. By adding a Gear Vendors Under/Overdrive to these transmissions you have an unbeatable package far superior to any factory overdrive automatic and with 6 close ratio gears for performance.

With a 28.6% faster cruising gear your 4.10 rear gears will give you the same net rpm as a set of 3.20s (3.55s will cruise like 2.77s - see Final Drive Ratios. Your engine will turn the same revs it does now in 500 miles but take you 640 miles. Fuel economy will jump 22-28% on a normally aspirated engine and even greater on forced induction powerplants.

you have c4's weakest, c9 in da middle and c10 stongest.

c10 internals fit c4&9 cases

6 pinion gears, special pistons, clutch drums are all requred and more for a proper build!

there is also 4spd box using c series bellhousings but have proved to hard to source!

c series box's can be built to handle over 1500hp but cost lots as icemybutt said!

granted t400's can be built to handle more than c series but the total installed cost for an equivelent box is much more!

Hi all,

I'm in the process of rebuilding my 4-speed in my XR6-T. I'm thinking of just sticking with the BTR and running a 2800-3500rpm stall convertor. Anyone had any experience with convertors on these 4-speeds? I've been told that the C9/C10 is alot stronger but doesnt allow tiptronic?? Any thoughts would help. Looking at spending around $3800-4500.

Hey just thought I'd say the c9 can be made quite steetable and are a bit old school yes but if built right are just awsome at wot & also if the conversion is done by the right people it can be made to look very complimentry when the B&M shifter is fitted nice Eg. With the genuine shifter cover & matching leather boot. Also with the full manuel valve body you vertually have your tiptronic action feel about it.Also This conversion can be done right for around 7 grand.By the time you rebuild 2 4 speeds ( which is not uncommon ) your vertually there. But I will say fuel economy will change & vary depending on convertor size ect.Hope this helps on your decision making.
