Hey everyone,

As I was driving back home from the coast yesterday, I finally popped a gear in my t5 box. The funny thing is that it was 5th gear to go, and running 325rwkw for 3 months that's the only gear ive managed to destroy. The box has served me well, but now it's time to do one of three things...

1) Rebuild t5 with stronger gears etc

2) Convert to t56

3) Sell the car to someone with a good offer for them to fix

Who knows of anyone near Canberra or even in Sydney who can supply box and other items necessary for conversion (preferably cheapest options?) If you know someone, or you are selling a t56 what can we negotiate?

Otherwise, If anyone is interested, or knows someone who is interested in buying the car let me know and we can negotiate that. (Car still drives perfectly in 1st to 4th gear) I won't go lower than $24000, as there is over $10000 worth of work done, and the whole car is mechanically A1 except for gearbox.

GenTech could organise a conversion from T5 to T56 easily? A conversion will cost you at least 5K im thinking.

Mal Wood does kits?

Or to get you back on the road quickest and cheapest, just get the T5 fixed, surely it wont cost that much?

I think a T56 conversion is at least 7k.. depending how cheap you can get the gearbox for. Mal wood are selling reconditioned ones for around $4800 at the moment. Add labour, clutch etc and it soon starts costing.

My plan, should my T5 blow... put another T5 in it, and putt around till it's time to sell!! :surrenderwave:

Another option is to strip all the go fast bits, and take it to a dealer and see what they offer.. I got offered 23k for mine, and they didn't even drive it. If you get an ok trade in deal, trade it in for a car with a 6sp manual or 6sp auto and whack all the good gear on it.. that's my 2nd option should the T5 go.

How did it happen mate?? did you give it a bootful in 5th?

Jun 24 2007 to Aug 20 2007 Barely two months, hope you have been saving since your last post about your T5.

Enough of the "We told you so"

Good luck with the new box, if you go with Mal you will be in good hands.

Hope your back on the road soon.

I'm anxious about mine, although so far it's survived about 16 months and 15000kms... I don't drive it hard often though... it's just gotta last another year or 2 and I'll be happy :stirthepot:

my vote is to fix the t5 and sell the car without mods, then bolt the go fast bits onto newer lower k`s car car with t56 as standard. purely cost driven suggestion... for the cost of a t56 conversion, you could get into a newer car for the same money and have a car with a higher intrinsic value.
