Hi guys

Just been browsing around and came across this ute that's going to auction. Looks like it needs some work but it has some km's racked up!!!

How much do you think it will go for?

Not bad, that's a few laps of Australia.

10k max... would be a good start for a project

it will go for 13 - 16k, definately wont be less than 13.

utes arnt very common at auctions, and when they have them every man and his dog bids on them, I reckon it would be a good work ute, I dont think 316,000 kms is rediculous either, those motors are good for probably up to a million I reckon, I doubt the same could be said for the turbo.

If you are going to bid on it, when the price is going up and people bidding, I find the best way to win is to wait until just about the last moment before it sells, so the guy will say, going once, twice, sold, so after he says twice, you put your ticket up in the air, I find it stuffs up the train of thought of the other bidder, he thinks hes won it, and when you get a last bid in sometimes stuffs it up for them. And I also find dont bid early on, let it get going, two or three will generally go at it for a bit, the more people bidding generally means you pay a higher price, so wait right until the very end. And be careful the auctioneer doesnt sneak in another couple of $100 at the end.

I got a '97 mazda astina a while back from one in brissy, and we got it for $7700, had 180k's on it, wrote it off in a flood on the coast a couple of years ago, and it was valued at $14,500. (not on purpose mind you - just lucky) insurance offered me $8000 to start with, and I told them to get stuffed, then they came back with around 12k, then I told them to shove that too, and they got to $13,500 and said that was all they were prepared to pay, if I wanted more I had to get an independant valuation, so I went stuff you and got one, which came in at $14500 exactly, cost me $200 for the val, but well worth it.

Good tip though if you ever do write your vehicle off, dont EVER take their first offer!!! argue like hell with them.
