Hi Y'all

and greetings from the UK. I've been lurking for a little while but finally got off my arse and decided to post. I lived and worked in Perth and Melbourne for a while back in 2005 and indulged my fetish for Aussie cars. Back in the UK it was a bit harder untill I bought this 08072007045wm0.jpg

It's a bit of a silly buy for over here but I love it :sleepystuff: I am a total convert. I used to be a fan of Hol....... well wont mention it here but you know what I'm on about. It's just a shame the Ford UK doesn't support Aussie cars like Vauxhall does for Holdens

Its totally standard BA mk1 XR6T with unfortunately an auto box, but over here its not as if I have a big choice, I am starting to like the auto but would have preferred the manual. I know there are one or two around over here but have yet to see one. I'm also trying to hunt down somewhere that might do parts so if there are any guys from the UK on here please get in touch, or if anyone knows a good supplier of parts and bits and bobs that would be able to post internationally please let me know.

So a couple of questions to get me started. I'm under the impression that the older 4 speed auto is a little fragile for higher powered cars, does this mean that if I want to tune it up I will be limited with how much I can do?

Also does anyone know if the cars are limited to 145 mph or around 230km/h?

Cheers

Garrick

good stuff mate :sleepystuff:

they're limited to about 230km/h.. also, I think the 4sp auto is probably better in the BA MKI, as the 5sp manual is probably just as fragile, and costs between $5-8k to replace with a 6sp (not sure about how you'd go over there though). The 4sp probably costs around $3-4k over here to strengthen and make it handle relatively big power.

Enjoy the ride mate

Great choice of car mate, these cars never disapoint their owners.

As for mods, I'm not too sure who you could go with to get it done over there. sorry

the 4 speed auto is good for around 280-300rwkw By average, some can take more, some take less.

And these cars are limited when standard, but a custom tune soon takes that away for you.. :)

If you're looking for a 300ish figure which is most blokes on here do.

youd be looking at: Injectors,Valve Springs (MAYBE), Bigger Cat/Dump pipe, Stronger auto (Another maybe).

Then you could either get an exhaust system or an Intercooler Kit. Put you around the healthy 300's

the xr6t is limited to 230klm

the auto is good if not abused

mines done countless quarter runs in the 11's and even down to a ten and is with the next owner, still going fine, its got its limits but with the right tune in it and a simpathetic driver, there fine.

have got a heap of 11 second cars up here all going fine with stock auto''s.infact I am yet to see a stock one fail up here in north Queensland, but all the drivers of the fast ones respect that it is a stock auto putting up with twice the power it was ment to.

I would limit them to around 320rwkws and 1000nm of torque and it should be fine, with a good oil cooler and synthetic oil in it.

That would be one rare car in the UK. You must get a lot of "What the hell is that"

Hopefully you should have a couple of Phoons to keep you company.

Every car varies, one xr6t 4spd can hold 300rwkws and another can hold only 250 it all varies. I had a mate blow his gearbox at 303rwkws and another mate at 270rwkws.

You have joined a great forum mate you will get all the help you need with your car here and enjoy the car mate nice ute by the way.

Hey Gaz. Welcome mate.

Did you import the ute yourself?

You gotta get that ute on Top Gear mate! Let the Stig loose on it! :veryangry:

I'm sure they would hate it but it would be interesting to see what they thought of it! It would have to go onto the cool side of the board.

Nice ute there Gaz but you need to loose those lugs off the side of your ute as you have a hard lid.You should be able to find a auto trimmer that could supply the little plugs that go in when you take them out.You will need to drill them out but be carefull as they will try to spin around as you drill. If you do it your ute will look SWEEETT.

You could also get a tuning shop here to send you a Flash tuning box with the generic 8 and 10 psi maps in it.All you do then is load it in your car and away you go.It will make a huge difference in stock power and not hurt your auto box either.

Just some food for thought.
